21C Museum Hotel Nashville Founded by two art collectors who decided to reimagine the traditional hotel model, 21c brings together a curated museum experience with luxury accommodations. At the Nashville location, the revived Gray & Dudley building is home to over 10,500 ft. of gallery space, encompassing multiple contemporary installations and, pictured here, a glass floor and skylight framed in painted steel.

King Power Mahanakhon Skywalk in Bangkok See the Bangkok skyline right from Thailand’s highest observation deck, known for its 360-degree views. But, more impressively, the Glass Tray Experience gives it a three-dimensional element.

Located on the tower’s 78th floor, this glass platform lets you stand on top to look at the cityscape directly beneath.

The Loupe at the Space Needle in Seattle As part of its multi-year Century Project, the Space Needle in Seattle has been undergoing $100 million in renovations. Among them, the Loupe – a rotating glass floor designed by Olson Kundig and the first of its kind – sits 500 feet up in the air, giving visitors a chance to look out and down. Cayo Espanto in Belize Located off the coast of Belize, the private island resort of Cayo Espanto sits right above crystal-blue waters, creating the sense that you’re planted directly above paradise. Added to the living area as a complement to the bungalows’ private terraces, these glass floors let you directly gaze into the blue lagoon underneath.

Les Cols Pavellons in Olot, Spain Guests booking a room at Spain’s Les Cols Pavellons are told not to expect too much privacy. Not far from the Garrotxa Volcanic Nature Reserve, this property juxtaposes a traditional Spanish country house with five zenconcept fully glass rooms – floor to ceiling and including the walls. It’s meant to be minimal and serene: Rooms feature a heated onsen and futon and, more importantly, create a sense of fluidity from the outside garden into the indoors.

Lotte World Tower in Seoul One of the world’s tallest buildings – the fifth, to be exact – this fairly new tower in Seoul stands 123 stories tall, visually inspired by historic Korean art forms and housing retail, office space, and a luxury hotel. The top 10 floors, including a skywalk and observation deck, are devoted toward entertainment and public uses.

The Ledge at Skydeck in Chicago’s Willis Tower Part of Willis Tower, the Western Hemisphere’s secondtallest building, the Skydeck sees 1.7 million visitors each year, many of whom want to try The Ledge. While tower’s view – which extends out 50 miles and into four states – has been a decades-long draw, The Ledge presents a different experience: In a transparent glass box situated roughly four feet from the tower’s wall, visitors stand right at the 103rd floor to fully take in the awe-inspiring scene above, below, and out into the horizon.

The Belleview Inn Where History Stands Still

Times change, but some things stay the same. Case in point,

the Belleview Inn, built on Florida’s west coast in the late 19th century and quickly earning a spot as the place to see celebrities and politicians. The hotel closed in 2009, but after $13 million in renovations, the facility is once again open for travelers – as well as for weddings and corporate retreats – wanting to experience the early part of the 20th century through a modern lens.

Renovations involved removing aluminum siding to repair the older wooden exterior and gable roof, and giving everything a fresh coat of paint – in green and white, to reflect the structure’s original colors. Inside, trusses hold up the lobby, creating a larger, more open feeling that helps highlight its rustic quarter-sawn hardwood floors, fireplace, grand staircase, Tiffany stained glass, and 10-ft. wide hallways – all decades-definitive facets.

Yet, beyond just reviving this historic, storied space, new additions pay tribute to its original owners. Morton’s Reading Room, a den and relaxation area, is based on the similarly used sanctuary in Morton Plant’s former Connecticut estate. The Tiffany Room, meanwhile, is a striking space beneath a curved, Tiffany glass-paneled ceiling that leads out to a large porch and the Grand Lawn. For light dining, Maisie’s Marketplace was inspired by the hotel’s original ice cream parlor, down to the tiled floor and tin ceiling.

For guests looking to stay, the Gilded Age-style architecture frames a comfortable, nostalgic experience through the hotel’s 35 guest rooms and suites, large pool, and history room offering further insight into the property’s legacy.
