The hospitality sector has broadly welcomed the new Employment Rights Bill but have warned that the proposed changes are “not without cost, with hospitality and on-trade operators being urged to review their employment practices. The Employment Rights Bill, the most significant reforms to employment rights in a generation was introduced to parliament on October and 10 is not expected to be made law until 2026, with the government saying that "getting the labour
market moving again is essential to economic growth" with one in five UK businesses with more than 10 employees reporting staff shortages. "Flexibility, for workers and businesses alike, is key to answering this challenge and is at the heart of the legislation to upgrade the law to ensure it is fit for modern life and a modern economy," it says.
