Winter Tip The perfect time to plan for spring renovations is while the snow is on the ground. Consider your home's curb appeal, reducing energy costs, and improving comfort and style. Early planning will ensure that the project runs smoothly and will allow more time to enjoy your upgrades before the snow falls again. Have your project on Build's schedule today for when the weather improves this spring.

Aesthetic Arts in Tillsonburg

Traditional porch completes renovation

You need not travel far to witness a spectacular example of the Aesthetic Arts movement popularized in the late 1800s. Annandale House in Tillsonburg serves as a monument to this style defined by colourful decorative detailing on ceilings and floors as well as ornate woodwork and stained glass. This stunning home was built by E.D. Tillson, the first mayor of Tillsonburg and today serves as a museum and tourist information centre for the area. If you love Arts and Crafts style, take the scenic drive and time travel to 1880 Victorian England without packing a suitcase (or teleporter). http://www.tillsonburg.ca/Visitors/ AnnandaleHouse. The simple porch design maintains this home's traditional facade.

We love this home. It is as charming and comforting as our friends who live within it. We knew from the beginning of planning for the addition that the old porch, a blend of styles that was weathered and worn, would need to be improved. The design evolved from the front door replacement, a traditional mission style in a welcoming yellow tone. The door is

contrasted by the continuation of grey tones in the trex boards of the floor and stairs. The simple craftsman style of the railings and posts once again tie-in with the door style. All is painted white to match the contrasting trim of the rest of the home. A shocking transformation from the original white house with green trim which it had once been.

Colourful details, decorative woodwork and glass.

Details such as the mission style newel posts and contrasting yellow door create a cheery welcome.
