Headteacher’s Welcome I am immensely proud to be the Headteacher at Teddington School and it gives me great pleasure to welcome to you to our school. I am delighted at the prospect of your child joining our community for their secondary education. At Teddington, we ensure that the educational experience every child receives is first class. We firmly believe that every child is entitled to an excellent educational experience, which offers breadth of curriculum, academic rigour, opportunity, and enables students to leave equipped with the skills to succeed in whichever future pathway they choose in their adult lives. In choosing Teddington, we will ensure that your child feels safe, confident and academically challenged every day. At Teddington School we have created a supportive and vibrant environment through which we nurture confident, ambitious students who embrace community, tolerance and have high aspirations. We are committed to excellence and pride ourselves on the fundamental principle that teachers have the right to teach, and students have the right to learn. In upholding this principle, we ensure that we get the best out of every student whatever their talent may be. Guided by the support of the Bourne Education Trust, our school has made rapid improvements in recent years. All staff at Teddington maintain the highest standards, have a positive outlook, are inventive in their thinking and adopt a ‘can-do’ approach. We were judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in November 2021, and look forward to what the future holds as we strive for even greater success.

Our Core Values Inclusion

Teddington School is a welcoming community in which all can flourish. We are proud of our differences and strengthened by our common goals.

Opportunity

We offer all students the curricular and extra curricular experiences necessary to nurture their talents and take their next steps in further education and careers.

Excellence

We are constantly striving towards this target to ensure that all students make progress and achieve their full potential.

Excellent Education Our broad curriculum is underpinned by our four pillars, which provide students with an 'Excellent Education' and enable them to grow and develop into 'Healthy Learners,' who are well-rounded 'Global Citizens,' and 'Future-Ready,' equipped with the skills to succeed in the wider world. Through our curriculum, we continually strive to: Deliver an ‘Excellent Education’ with engaging content that inspires all students to achieve. Consider students' individual needs and abilities, ensuring inclusivity for all. Embed formative assessment to enhance students’ learning and outcomes. Embody high expectations and challenge students to build resilience and confidence. Foster and develop a culture of praise, reward, and positivity. Ensure students embrace extracurricular opportunities to extend their learning. Support our students to become ‘Global Citizens’ through spiritual, cultural, and moral development.

Global Citizens At Teddington School, we believe in creating opportunities beyond the academic curriculum, and we are committed to developing ‘Global Citizens’. As one of our core philosophies, we expect every student to attend at least one extracurricular activity per term, and we encourage students to join as many as they can. It is often through participation in extracurricular activities that we develop leadership, empathy, passion, determination, and find friends with similar interests. Taking part in subject-based clubs allows students to extend their interests and their learning beyond what is possible in a normal classroom lesson. In addition to regular clubs, fixtures and activities in a wide range of areas, highlights of our Enrichment Programme include: The Highflyers programme, which supports our most able students. Duke of Edinburgh, which challenges and pushes students out of their comfort zone. Our link with Brentford FC, who provide inclusive, high-quality coaching in Football and Gymnastics. The STEAM programme, which fosters innovation, problem solving and creativity

Future Ready We are constantly striving to elevate students' aspirations and provide them with the information they need to leave us 'Future Ready' and prepared for success in any path they choose. Through a variety of opportunities, we aim to ignite their passions, unearth their talents, and empower them to explore a wide range of possibilities. In our efforts to equip students for the future, we work to instil the confidence and self-belief necessary for them to pursue ambitious next steps in further education and careers. Through learning and exposure to meaningful interactions with employers and training providers, students gain real-life experiences that enhance their employability and broaden their awareness of life beyond secondary education. Highlights of our Future Ready Programme include: Our annual careers fair, which attracts more than twenty local, regional, national, and international businesses. Visits to workplaces such as Sky and the National Physics Laboratory. TEDdington Talks, a wide variety of insightful talks delivered by industry professionals. Practical experience with job applications, CV writing, and interview techniques.

Healthy Learners We understand how important it is for your child to settle quickly into secondary school. To support this, we work diligently on our Transition Programme, which begins as early as Year 4 with a range of events conducted in partnership with our feeder primary schools. Once students enrol with us, their form tutor plays a crucial role in providing support and guidance. Students meet with their tutor group each morning, participating in structured learning activities that focus on their social and emotional development, overall wellbeing, and general literacy. To support each year group, we assign a Head of Year and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Head of Year, along with the tutor, will support students throughout their journey at Teddington. We place a strong emphasis on celebrating success and providing a wide range of opportunities for all students. At Teddington, we also have a robust pastoral team that works closely with the tutors and Heads of year. We are committed to ensuring that students are 'Healthy Learners' by promoting good mental health, wellbeing, and resilience, helping students feel settled in school and enabling them to be successful.

Pupils feel safe and cared for in the school. Teddington is a caring environment, where diversity is recognised and celebrated in the curriculum. They appreciate the pastoral teams. Ofsted, 2021

Sixth Form In our Sixth Form, we combine academic success with a supportive and nurturing environment. Our Sixth Form offers more structure than a college, facilitating a smoother transition from GCSE to Post-16 learning. Our smaller class sizes encourage greater engagement during lessons, with students benefiting from additional encouragement and support from our teachers. In 2023, our A-Level students achieved resounding success in their A-Level results, with an impressive 14% of students achieving A* to A grades. 85% of our Year 13 students secured places at prestigious universities across the country, and two students gained admission to Oxford University. Our purpose-built Sixth Form Centre offers a wide range of A-Level and BTEC subjects, as well as the Extended Project Qualification. Our comprehensive daily tutor programme covers study skills, mental health awareness, careers education, and preparation for life after Sixth Form. The Sixth Form is overseen by Miss Pleavin, our Head of Sixth Form, who is supported by a Head of Year, a Sixth Form administrator, and a team of tutors. Together, they ensure that students' time in our Sixth Form is purposeful and prepares them for the next stage of their academic or professional journey.
