An Academy within the SDBE Multi-Academy Trust

We are proud to welcome to you to our inclusive, diverse, Church of England Primary School in the centre of Redhill.
We are a two form entry primary school; an academy in The Southwark Diocesan Board of Education MultiAcademy Trust. We have a nursery with morning, afternoon and full time places, primary classes for children aged 4-11 years and a special needs support centre for children with a diagnosis of ASD.
Together with Trust leaders, we have high expectations for all our children and work to ensure they make excellent progress from their starting points during their time with us.
The St Matthew’s family is very important to us. Relationships are strong here. We want to work with you to ensure your child gets the very best from their education and the wider opportunities we can offer.
We would love to welcome you to St Matthew’s School to meet our dedicated and experienced staff team, see our well-resourced buildings and extensive grounds and to share our programme of wider opportunities.

Our curriculum is designed to engage, inspire, motivate and challenge our pupils.
It allows the pupils to:
• develop their interests in the world around them
• develop their love of learning
• build resilience
• become creative, critical thinkers
• apply their skills and knowledge to a range of contexts
We believe it is our role to develop children’s thirst for learning and knowledge and to provide them with experiences they wouldn’t otherwise have.
High standards in English and mathematics are a priority with opportunities for children to apply their skills and knowledge in context. As a church school, Religious Education has a high profile. Children learn about religion and also from religion, where they can be reflective and comment on how religious teachings have an impact on their own lives. Science, computing, art, music, physical education, modern foreign languages, history, geography and design technology are taught in an engaging and practical ways.
We regularly make use of our vast school grounds throughout the curriculum and beyond. Learning outdoors is something we are passionate about, whether we are encouraging our pupils to experiment, discover, connect to the natural world or engage in outdoor sports and adventure activities.
Community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum as we celebrate local and national festivals and traditions, learning new skills to enable the children to take an active role in events throughout the year. We have strong partnerships with local community organisations including: St Matthew’s Church, Redhill Tennis club, Dunnotar School, Welcare, Prept Foundation for food education and links with other schools through our Multi-Academy Trust.
We want our children to be aspirational for themselves so that they can have successful futures.
At St Matthew’s Church of England Primary School
we aim high, encourage and have faith.
We aim high
We are aspirational for our children, our school and ourselves. Christ brought out the best in everyone and so should we.
We encourage
We build people up, we recognise the value of the whole school family. Christ welcomed all and so do we.
We have faith
We have the courage to take risks and try new things knowing that this is a safe place and we have faith that God has great plans for our school and the individuals in it. Christ served through the good times and challenges so do we.
All are welcome at St Matthew’s School. It is a place that makes a difference.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”

We are proud of our wide and varied programme of extended learning activities. We believe that participation in clubs, visits and other activities are key elements of a well-rounded education, benefitting children’s confidence, self-esteem, resilience, social skills and aspirations.
Visits to places of interest, both local and further afield, and residential trips are an integral part of the curriculum.
We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme, some of the clubs which take place at lunchtime or after school include choir, sports clubs, gardening, homework support, cooking and art. All are provided by qualified staff, free of charge.
Breakfast and after-school club are available daily for providing wraparound childcare. These clubs take place onsite and are run by our own school staff who know the children and our high expectations.
Children leave St Matthew’s School confident having been part of a close school community where they are well known and their gifts and talents are nurtured and celebrated.
We are a thriving Church of England Primary School with excellent facilities and generous grounds, ideally situated near Redhill town centre and well-connected by local transport links.
Our committed and highly skilled staff nurture the full potential of every child, developing happy, confident and independent learners. We are proud of our rich and exciting curriculum which ensures personal and academic progress.
Our goal at St Matthew’s is to support our children to be the best they can be.
We aim for all our children to be ambitious for themselves and our community so that all can flourish and go on to be successful citizens.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”
