It is a great privilege to introduce myself as the Headteacher of Southgate School. From the moment I arrived, I was deeply impressed by the school’s warm and inclusive atmosphere, the strong sense of community, and the pride that pupils and staff alike take in being part of Southgate.

At Southgate School, every student has the opportunity to develop their voice and leadership skills through a wide range of student leadership roles. From engaging in discussions with senior leaders about their learning and daily school experience, to participating in the recruitment of new staff, students are actively involved in shaping school life. Our peer mentoring programme fosters a strong sense of community, with older students supporting younger peers across year groups. In addition, our dedicated Student Leadership Team plays a key role in driving forward our equality’s agenda, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected throughout the school.
Southgate School is a place full of heart and energy. We proudly celebrate the Arts, Sport and we offer a vibrant extracurricular programme. We are a leading centre for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, with many of our students achieving the prestigious Gold Award at Buckingham Palace. We are deeply committed to educating the whole child. Our strong focus on personal development and careers education plays a vital role in helping our students grow into confident, ambitious, and well-rounded young adults. Our years of experience managing the transition process for students joining us from Primary schools, means that we have tried and tested systems in place to ensure that new students feel safe and secure throughout their time at Southgate School.
At Southgate School, we are proud to offer exceptional pastoral care that supports every student throughout their seven-year journey with us. Our dedicated tutors play a vital role in guiding and encouraging students, helping them to uphold the highest standards of behaviour and personal responsibility. We have an extensive pastoral team and are especially proud of our ‘Be Well Zones’, including our Student Support Centre, where Learning Mentors provide one-toone support and deliver life-skills sessions to help students overcome any challenges they may face. Our commitment to early intervention ensures that all students receive the support they need, when they need it. The outstanding academic outcomes our students achieve are a testament to this approach. Southgate School is a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment where students and staff are happy, supported and empowered to thrive.
“Pupils at Southgate School are happy, and they enjoy their learning. They like spending time with their friends, and there are strong working relationships between pupils and staff.”

A wide range of careers and work-related learning opportunities are embedded throughout the curriculum, helping students make informed, aspirational choices for their post-16 pathways.
Our Sixth Form is a vibrant and ambitious community that champions both academic excellence and personal growth.
