Art from the Heart and Soul

See Also 2023 The Archive: Floral Immersive Exhibit

Experience an immersive art installation by world-renowned artist Rebecca Louise Law.

Law’s artworks are created by preserving natural materials and reconfiguring them into otherworldly designs. Her most well-recognized artworks are comprised of thousands of flowers, individually sewn, and suspended. Viewers are invited to navigate through them, discovering the diverse forms, colors, and textures of each specimen and consider our human connection to nature and the role we play in shaping the world we live in.

The Archive is comprised of over 500,000 botanical objects, including flowers, pinecones, seed pods, and other items. Over 50,000 of these were donated by local businesses and individuals from Northeast Ohio. These natural materials are suspended from an 18-foot-tall timber frame constructed of Douglas Fir beams, filling nearly 44,000 cubic feet of space in historic Brett Hall.

The Ohio Center for the Book @ Cleveland Public Library (OCFB) is dedicated to promoting and celebrating books, reading, literacy, and libraries to Ohio’s citizens and the book community at-large.

A poet, critic, and translator, Lindsay Turner is the author of the poetry collections The Upstate (University of Chicago Press, 2023) and Songs & Ballads (Prelude Books, 2018) as well as several translations from the French.

Noah Falck is the author of Exclusions (finalist for the 2020 Believer Book Award), as well as several chapbook collections, including normal normal, You Are In Nearly Every Future, and the co-authored collection Prerecorded Weather (winner of the 2022 James Tate Poetry Prize).

Stephanie Ginese and Taylor Byas

Join the Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library for a National Poetry Month reading featuring authors Stephanie Ginese (Lorain) and Taylor Byas (Cincinnati).

Stephanie Ginese is an author, instructor, and stand-up comedian from South Lorain, Ohio. Her debut collection of poetry, Unto Dogs, was released in July of 2022 on Grieveland. She is currently the inaugural writer-in-residence at ATNSC and a 2023 Cleveland Arts Prize recipient.

Dr. Taylor Byas, Ph.D. is a Black Chicago native currently living in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she is an Assistant Features Editor for The Rumpus, an Acquisitions Poetry Editor for Variant Literature and a member of the Beloit Poetry Journal Editorial Board. She is the author of the chapbook Bloodwarm from Variant Lit, a second chapbook, Shutter, from Madhouse Press, and her debut full-length, I Done Clicked My Heels Three Times from Soft Skull Press, which won the 2023 Maya Angelou Book Award and is shortlisted for the 2023 Chicago Review of Books Award.

HOUSING COURT PARTNERSHIP

Private computer kiosks are now available at neighborhood select library branches solely for the use of Clevelanders who need to appear before Cleveland Housing Court. This allows those facing eviction or other hearings to appear without having to secure transportation to travel downtown, obtain childcare, or miss work. The kiosks, purchased with a grant from the Ohio Supreme Court, offer help to the areas of the city with the highest eviction rates. Through this partnership, the Library seeks to expand access to services that Clevelanders need and to help bridge the digital divide.
