The Department of English at Cleveland State University is committed to engaged learning inside and out of the classroom.

As a Creative Writing student you will:

▶ Receive extensive feedback on your work in small, student-centered classes

▶ Study four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, playwriting

▶ Take courses in literary editing and publishing

▶ Attend programs at the CSU Poetry Center, a nationally known literary press

▶ Interact with community organizations like Literary Cleveland, Lake Erie Ink and more

▶ The Cauldron (newspaper) opportunities

The Creative Writing track at CSU offers intensive workshops and hands-on experience to help students realize their goals as writers, editors, media professionals and more.

Student organizations and publications at CSU include:

▶ The Vindicator (monthly, multicultural arts magazine)

Additionally, the CSU Poetry Center and the NEOMFA Program regularly bring award-winning poets and writers to campus to help students learn more about writing, publishing and opportunities in the field today.

CSU students have also completed internships with local arts, history and journalistic organizations.
