AFRICANA STUDIES

Africana Studies is a multidisciplinary field of study that examines the history, culture and politics of people of African descent, linking academic teaching and civic engagement to help students understand the global context of the modern world.

Earn two degrees in four years! Major in Africana Studies and Healthcare Management to expand career opportunities and gain a competitive edge.

This dual-degree program offers a multidisciplinary education that combines courses on race, social justice and underserved populations with healthcare management, leadership and public policy. Academic coaching from the College of Arts and Sciences and Monte Ahuja College of Business helps ensure successful program completion. Africana Studies is also available as a minor and complements a variety of majors.

Africana Studies students can look forward to participating in a variety of organizations and academic events.

The Department of Africana Studies connects students to internship opportunities at museums and in public service. As part of their courses, students may also visit historical and educational sites.

Students are encouraged to get involved with Sankofa Society for major and minors, Black Student Union, non-profit organizations in the greater Cleveland community, and programs and events scheduled in the Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center. opportunities
