Howdy everyone, Fall is here and that means hunting season starts. Dear season is here and you can only kill 3 deer this season, so this season may be fast for some hunters. So we have to take our time and make our tags last.

Archery season runs from September 26 to February 7, 2016 with a youth gun hunt on November 21 & 22 and state gun November 30 to December 6 and December 28 and 29 and muzzleloader season January 9 to January 12, 2016. Also in the fall there is turkey season, October 10 to November 29th and only one bird, either sex may be killed. Rabbit season starts November 6 to February

29, 2016. Coyote season runs all year round and they need to be thinned down. They seem to be all over.

Waterfowl has many seasons so check for when they are in.

Fall also brings some very good fishing and we just had our crappie championship with good results. 1st place was 10.31 lbs, 2nd place was 10.17 lbs and 3rd place was 10.07 lbs. with big crappie at 13.3 lbs. They are moving to the back of creeks to feed up for winter. We had some nice muskie being caught and this time of year also look up

creeks and the back of coves for them.

Our benefit for Diabetes went over very good and thanks to everyone who helped and came out for a fun day.

Thanks to all of you that helped and the Lodge 590, Furniture Fair and all that donated items.

Good luck on that big buck this fall and catching some fish. Until next time good hunting and fishing to all.

Firewood Policy - East Fork State Park has a no-firewood-out policy due to Asian Longhorned Beetle In June 2011, the Asian Longhorned Beetle was discovered in Tate Township in Clermont County. This invasive beetle has no known natural predators and poses a threat to Ohio’s hardwood forests (more

than $2.5 billion in standing maple timber) and the state’s $5 billion nursery industry which employs nearly 240,000 people.

To keep this tree-killing pest from spreading across Ohio, restricted areas are

now in effect for Tate Township and parts of Batavia, Monroe and Stonelick Townships in Clermont County, as well as for East Fork State Park.

It is illegal to remove the following items from either area: (A) Firewood, stumps, roots, branches, debris and other material living, dead, cut, or fallen from all hardwood species; and green lumber, nursery stock and logs of the following genera: Acer (maple), Aesculus (horse chestnut), Albizia (mimosa), Betula (birch), Celtis (hackberry),

Cercidiphyllum (katsura), Fraxinus (ash), Koelteria (golden raintree), Platanus (sycamore), Populus (poplar), Salix (willow), Sorbus (mountain ash), and Ulmus (elm).

(B) Any other article, product, or means of conveyance not covered by paragraph (a) of this section if the director determines that it presents a risk of spreading Asian longhorned beetle.

Ohio is the fifth state to find Asian Longhorned Beetles. The pest was successfully eradicated in Illinois and parts of New

Jersey, and it is currently being controlled in New York and Massachusetts.

With the help of local citizens reporting known infestations it can be controlled in Ohio as well. Potential infestations are encouraged to be reported to 855-2526450. from http://www.agri.ohio.gov/ topnews/asianbeetle/

Safety tips for fall and winter boating 1. Check the Weather – Always check the local forecast just before going out on the water.

2. Prepare a Float Plan – Leave a description of your boat (including registration number), the number of people on board, the area where you will be boating, and the time you expect to leave and return with a friend or family member.

3.

Carry Emergency Supplies - A radio or cell phone, dry clothes, a flashlight with batteries, food and fresh water, matches in a water-proof bag, and flares or a signal kit are all items that should be on board during cold-weather boating.

4. Know the Facts about Hypothermia – If you go overboard into cold water, your core temperature will

begin to drop within 10 to 15 minutes. Focus all of your effort into getting out of the water as quickly as possible.

Climb onto anything floating to get your body out of the water. If getting out of the water is impossible, remember these survival tips: Don’t take off your clothes; they trap air and help keep you afloat, in addition to trapping body heat.

Cover your head and keep it above water, if possible.

Don’t panic; draw your knees to your chest in the Heat Escape Lessening Posture (H.E.L.P), protecting the major areas of heat loss.

If there are other people in the water with you, huddle together with one person in the middle of the huddle.

Rotating the person in the middle allows everyone to

benefit from the trapped body heat of the other members of the huddle.

Don’t try to swim, unless you can swim to reach a nearby boat, floating object, or another person. Swimming releases the warm water trapped between your body and your clothing and causes “warm” blood to be sent to your extremities. As a result, swimming can actually reduce your survival time by as much as 50 percent.

Remain as still as possible, even if it’s painful. Intense shivering and severe pain are natural body reflexes in cold water. They will not kill you, but heat loss will.

5. Leave the Alcohol at Home – Drinking impairs judgment and coordination and is often a major factor in boating accidents.

Begin Your Day at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center

Autumn means beautiful scenery, pleasant picnics and hiking adventures. Begin your exploration of the park at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center open daily through mid October. Conveniently located off SR 222 between the north and south entrances of East Fork State Park, you can pick up trail and park maps, a calendar of events, and other information. Displays allow you to discover the natural history of the park and missions of the Corps.

The Deer Ridge Trail, an Overlook, and reservable Picnic Shelter shown above are located near the Visitor Center.

For more information about programs, volunteer opportunities, shelter reservations, etc. call the Park Ranger at (513) 797-6081.

The Corps Operations area also has fishing access, a boat ramp, hiking trails, and a second reservable shelter in the Tailwater. The Emergency Spillway is popular for flying kites, hunting fossils, and flying model airplanes. Views from the Saddle Dam attract walkers and joggers. And this is all just fifteen minutes from East Fork State Park!

Meet at the Corps Visitor Center at 9 am to break into groups led by veteran butterfliers who are happy to share their knowledge and visit locations filled with flowers and butterflies. Bring water, snacks and close-focus binoculars if you have them. This count is sponsored by the North American Butterfly Association, an organization that promotes awareness of butterfly conservation, observation and education. 2. Prepare a Float Plan – Leave a description of your boat (including registration number), the number of people on board, the area where you will be boating, and the time you expect to leave and return with a friend or family member.

Carry Emergency Supplies - A radio or cell phone, dry clothes, a flashlight with batteries, food and fresh water, matches in a water-proof bag, and flares or a signal kit are all items that should be on board during cold-weather boating.

4. Know the Facts about Hypothermia – If you go overboard into cold water, your core temperature will

begin to drop within 10 to 15 minutes. Focus all of your effort into getting out of the water as quickly as possible.

Climb onto anything floating to get your body out of the water. If getting out of the water is impossible, remember these survival tips: Don’t take off your clothes; they trap air and help keep you afloat, in addition to trapping body heat.

Cover your head and keep it above water, if possible.

Don’t panic; draw your knees to your chest in the Heat Escape Lessening Posture (H.E.L.P), protecting the major areas of heat loss.

If there are other people in the water with you, huddle together with one person in the middle of the huddle.

Rotating the person in the middle allows everyone to

benefit from the trapped body heat of the other members of the huddle.

Don’t try to swim, unless you can swim to reach a nearby boat, floating object, or another person. Swimming releases the warm water trapped between your body and your clothing and causes “warm” blood to be sent to your extremities. As a result, swimming can actually reduce your survival time by as much as 50 percent.

Remain as still as possible, even if it’s painful. Intense shivering and severe pain are natural body reflexes in cold water. They will not kill you, but heat loss will.

5. Leave the Alcohol at Home – Drinking impairs judgment and coordination and is often a major factor in boating accidents.

Howdy everyone, Fall is here and that means hunting season starts. Dear season is here and you can only kill 3 deer this season, so this season may be fast for some hunters. So we have to take our time and make our tags last.

Archery season runs from September 26 to February 7, 2016 with a youth gun hunt on November 21 & 22 and state gun November 30 to December 6 and December 28 and 29 and muzzleloader season January 9 to January 12, 2016. Also in the fall there is turkey season, October 10 to November 29th and only one bird, either sex may be killed. Rabbit season starts November 6 to February

29, 2016. Coyote season runs all year round and they need to be thinned down. They seem to be all over.

Waterfowl has many seasons so check for when they are in.

Fall also brings some very good fishing and we just had our crappie championship with good results. 1st place was 10.31 lbs, 2nd place was 10.17 lbs and 3rd place was 10.07 lbs. with big crappie at 13.3 lbs. They are moving to the back of creeks to feed up for winter. We had some nice muskie being caught and this time of year also look up

creeks and the back of coves for them.

Our benefit for Diabetes went over very good and thanks to everyone who helped and came out for a fun day.

Thanks to all of you that helped and the Lodge 590, Furniture Fair and all that donated items.

Good luck on that big buck this fall and catching some fish. Until next time good hunting and fishing to all.

Firewood Policy - East Fork State Park has a no-firewood-out policy due to Asian Longhorned Beetle In June 2011, the Asian Longhorned Beetle was discovered in Tate Township in Clermont County. This invasive beetle has no known natural predators and poses a threat to Ohio’s hardwood forests (more

than $2.5 billion in standing maple timber) and the state’s $5 billion nursery industry which employs nearly 240,000 people.

To keep this tree-killing pest from spreading across Ohio, restricted areas are

now in effect for Tate Township and parts of Batavia, Monroe and Stonelick Townships in Clermont County, as well as for East Fork State Park.

It is illegal to remove the following items from either area: (A) Firewood, stumps, roots, branches, debris and other material living, dead, cut, or fallen from all hardwood species; and green lumber, nursery stock and logs of the following genera: Acer (maple), Aesculus (horse chestnut), Albizia (mimosa), Betula (birch), Celtis (hackberry),

Cercidiphyllum (katsura), Fraxinus (ash), Koelteria (golden raintree), Platanus (sycamore), Populus (poplar), Salix (willow), Sorbus (mountain ash), and Ulmus (elm).

(B) Any other article, product, or means of conveyance not covered by paragraph (a) of this section if the director determines that it presents a risk of spreading Asian longhorned beetle.

Ohio is the fifth state to find Asian Longhorned Beetles. The pest was successfully eradicated in Illinois and parts of New

Jersey, and it is currently being controlled in New York and Massachusetts.
