2009-10 Season Preview lowing behind her will be junior Elizabeth Savage, who has continued to impress during her first two seasons. She also finds herself in the top 10 in Clemson history for the breaststroke events as she is tenth in the 100 and third in the 200. Senior cocaptain Carmen Groenewoud will also be a valuable contributor in both events. Clemson will rely mostly on their veterans for the breaststroke events, but freshmen Laura Browning and Garrison Stevens will add some depth for the Tigers.
Butterfly The 100 butterfly could be very strong for the Tigers as they are returning four swimmers ranked in the top 10 in Clemson history. Meggie Mizelle is the leading returner for the group as she is ranked third in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 at Clemson. She will have help from freshman Tori Cervone, whose best time would have been top 16 in the ACC. Cervone was the state champion in the 200 fly for New Jersey and was also named Woman-of-the-Year in New Jersey. Clemson will also have help from Heather Savage, Kelsey Krauss, Kristen Redmond, and Kelly McGee in the butterfly events. The biggest hope for the Tigers will be sophomore Maddie Tarantolo. If she can have a breakout year, Clemson will have a very strong nucleus of flyers, as she was an Olympic Trial participant last year. With a year of experience under her belt, the staff believe she can come into her own this season.
Individual Medley Senior Katrina Obas returns as the leader in the 200 IM from a season ago. She will have help from fellow senior and co-captain Carmen Groenewoud, as well as Elizabeth Savage, Kerry McLaughlin, and Maddie Tarantolo. Savage will also compete in the 400 IM where she is currently ranked fifth in Clemson history. Senior Mandy Snell was a pleasant surprise in the 400 IM last season and will be a strong competitor in the event this season. Groenewoud, Obas, and McLaughlin will round out the 400 IM group for the upperclassmen while Sarah Andrews and Tori Cervone will show their versatility for the freshmen. Cervone is coming in with a best time of 4:19.20 in the 400 IM and that would have put her eighth at the ACC Championships.

lot of promise to work with this season, and with the addition of freshman Elizabeth Tatum to their already loaded arsenal, will make for a very well-rounded group that gives them depth and experience.

Diving The Clemson Women’s Diving team will return a lot of experienced student-athletes for the 2009-10 season. The team lost senior Ali Zacker and is ready for the upcoming season. Diving Coach Lesslie Hasselbach is looking forward to a lot of success with the return of so much experience and skill. “We have three competitive divers returning. Stephanie Fura is healthy and ready to compete in her final year here. We are also returning Brooke George and Cassie Self, who had great freshmen seasons and I expect great success out of both of them during their sophomore year. We are also bringing in freshman Elizabeth Tatum, who has been training hard over the summer and competed in several US Diving meets.” Fura is coming back as the school record holder in the three-meter diving and is fourth at Clemson in one-meter Diving. Sophomores Cassie Self and Brooke George both put up zone scores in one-meter Diving and Self also posted a zone score on three-meter last season. George put up scores that placed her second at Clemson in one-meter diving and fifth in the three-meter, while Self ’s top scores put her sixth and fourth respectively. Head Coach Lesslie Hasselbach will have a team with a
