Exhibition in Roskilde Cathedral
Location: Domkirkepladsen 3, 3000 RO
Year: 2023
Type: Thesis project.
My project proposal is a strategy for exhibition design within the Unesco World Heritage Site, the Roskilde Cathedral. The exhibition design will specifically be located in the cathedral gallery and The Chapel of The Three Magi (also known as The Knight Hall). The exhibition design aims to highlight the cathedral’s unique architecture and craftsmanship while showcasing a series of objects from an existing exhibition within the chapel.

The display design, enveloping the columns of the cathedral, also serves as a visual guide, prompting visitors to establish connections between the exhibited artifacts and the monuments from which these objects originate. In this example the artifacts are original small statuettes from Queen Margrethe the 1.’s sarcophagus, that in present day has been renovated.

As the corona virus has influenced the daily life of citizens worldwide, the practice of working from home has become more relevant than ever. The project proposes a dedicated space for work and concentration with movable storage units that doubles as spacedividers, forming secret corners and hidingspots while also lowering the visibility into the room, enhancing the feeling of privateness.

This project is based on an existing exhibition section of a bigger exhibition called Wonder. The section is about the Danish collector J.W. Frohnes collection of ceramics and scissors. My proposal is a refurbishment of the showcases, based on designs from the 1800 while using modern materials and production method. the layout of the room is also therby changed, and the doors lead the visitors to projections of Frohnes room.

This project was made as a commentary and investigation into the dying and revived practices of the craftsmens and their crafts in modern society, specifically the Taxidermist. Through visits and interviews we observed how this craft immortalises animals by reproducing their movements and physiology. Our project propeses an exhibition
with crafts that are artisticlally interpretated. Our own contribution to said exhibition is a garment that could imitate movement and furr/ feather displacement. The glove is exhibited/preserved withn a glass coffin on a custom made wooden plinth. A white shroud is to be zipped open before accesing the glove to futher emphasize the themes of death and revival.

This exhibition was made for Copenhagen Fashionweek 2019, sponsored by ID and Designcluster. In our team, we co curated and organized the exhibition within the Danish Geologisk Museum while also creating, handling and mounting both artifacts and exhibition design. We exhibited within rooms painted by danish artist: Per Kirkeby.
