You could also grab some fresh flowers for round the house or place fruit in empty vases to add a touch of intrigue.

Embrace the trend of repurposing furniture. Upholster that chair the cats have ripped to shreds, make a new cover for that dusty old lamp, or sand down and paint the bookcase you were going to throw out.
