A TROLLEY RACE FOR CHARITY

The annual Clearwater Mall and Roodepoort Charity Trolley Race made childhood dreams come true on Saturday, 28 April as we partnered with the Roundtable 162i in aid of Matla a Bana – A Voice against Child Abuse. A huge thank you goes to Game Clearwater who sponsored a host of trolleys for an energetic day of racing. Eager teams decorated their trolleys with amazing themes and raced their wheels off, raising R6,500 for charity on the day!

Those who wanted to make a difference attended the CANSA Shavathon, hosted in the Fountain Court on Saturday, 2 March. A kaleidoscope of brightly coloured heads were wandering the Mall that day, as well as few shaved ones, and thanks to everyone’s amazing contributions a phenomenal amount of R17,085 was raised!

CAREER EXPO’S

Clearwater Mall is committed to helping the community in any way we can, and so School and Career expo’s such as the SABC School Expo and Learning Point Expo are held throughout the year.

Hosted for the children of our community, these events highlight the importance of staying in school, and give various tertiary institutes the chance to showcase what they have to offer. Clearwater Mall wants to help the kids of today make the best decisions and achieve their goals.

OUR 7TH ANNUAL

FUN RUN!

An incredible total of 3,100 runners participated in Clearwater Mall’s 7th annual 10km Race and 5km Fun Run on Saturday, 17 August. This is one of our favourite events of the year and a special thanks goes out to the amazing team at the Panorama Running Club for organising a day filled with high spirits and smiling faces. While some runners challenged themselves to a timed race, others joined for fun, and we hope you’ll all keep those running shoes within reach because the race will be back in August 2020! #ChallengeAccepted

LEGO

EXHIBITION

Wide-eyed children, young-at-heart adults and dedicated LEGO lovers were treated to over 50 tables of brick-filled LEGO sculptures at the LEGO Exhibition hosted in August.

We partnered with the South Africa LEGO Users Group (zaLUG) to bring thousands of tiny pieces together to form amazing life-size technical builds.

Another firm favourite, this event will also be back in 2020, so keep your eyes on our website for event dates.

Clearwater Mall teamed up with Rhodes Quality Food and LEAP Science and Math Schools to host a one-of-a-kind Mandela Day event on 18 July 2019. We also unveiled a first for Johannesburg – a Nelson Mandela mosaic created from 27,209 cans of food! Not only did we achieve this incredible goal in one day, but all the cans of food were distributed to non-profit organisations like Matla-a-Bana – A Voice Against Child Abuse; the Helderkruin & Clearwater Mall Lions; Amadea Safe House and Uitkoms for Girls, as well as a number of Leap NPO partners. We can’t wait to change things up a bit for our next mosaic in 2020!

Summer Delights

KOREAN BBQ PORK RASHERS Don’t expect any leftovers when you serve these, the delicious sauce turns sticky-sweet when cooked over the coals!

Ingredients Method 2 garlic cloves, chopped

2cm knob ginger, grated

• Blitz garlic cloves, ginger, spring onions and 1 Tbsp (15ml) rice vinegar into a fine paste.

2 Tbsp (30ml) rice vinegar

• Combine with soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil and remaining rice vinegar in a pot and bring to the boil.

2 spring onions, chopped ½ cup (125ml) soy sauce 3 Tbsp (45ml) brown sugar 2 Tbsp (30ml) sesame oil 1 Tbsp (15ml) cornflour

12 boneless pork rashers

• Stir in cornflour and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.

• Thread pork rashers onto bamboo skewers that have been presoaked in water.

• Season and brush with BBQ sauce, reserving some for basting.

Salt and milled pepper

• Grill rashers over medium-hot coals for 20-30 minutes, or until cooked through. Remove from heat and baste with reserved sauce.

Sesame seeds, for serving

• Serve topped with sliced spring onions and a sprinkling of sesame seeds.

Deliciously Decadent!

STEAMED COFFEE & CHOCOLATE PUDDINGS RECIPE BY: JACQUES ERASMUS

Ingredients 120 g dark or milk chocolate 125 g self-raising flour 1 Free-range egg, beaten 400 g white sugar 1/2 cup strong black coffee 25 g soft butter 1 tsp vanilla extract or 1/2 tsp vanilla essence salt 6 chocolate truffles, for serving

Method

• Melt the chocolate in a double boiler over a low heat or very slowly in a microwave oven, stirring until silky in texture.

• Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.

• Spoon into 6 demitasse cups.

• Cover the base of a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Place the puddings inside. Cover and steam for 8 to 10 minutes, until the puddings are cooked on top and well puffed, but soft and liquid at the bottom.

• Remove from the heat and serve immediately with a chocolate truffle on top.

Baby Change Rooms

Avoid the queues when paying for parking! Visit Reception in the Guest Rations Desk at Entrance 2 or Reception at Centre Management outside Entrance 7 to get your FREE Pre-Paid Parking Ticket. That’s right, Pre-paid Tickets are FREE OF CHARGE to all our shoppers.

Money can be loaded on the card at our pay stations, and printed instructions will be supplied upon collection of you card.

However, you will have to pay R50 if you lose your parking ticket.

Gift Cards that keeps on giving!

Buying a gift couldn’t be easier! Purchase a Clearwater Mall Gift Cards from the Guest Relations Desk located at Entrance 2, or at Centre Management Reception. Please note that only VISA and MasterCard credit cards and debit cards are accepted and no cash will be accepted.

Enjoy our Family Rooms We understand the frustration of not being able to assist your child in opposite gender bathrooms, and so Clearwater Mall has 2 Family Rooms that shoppers can use. One can be found on the upper level behind Café Rousse Food Bar and the other is located on the lower level behind Café Finesta.

Muslim Prayer Room Clearwater Mall offers shopper use of the prayer room which is located outside Entrance 2, under the ramp. Visit our Guest Relations Desk at Entrance 2 or Centre Management Reception outside Entrance 7 for the access code.

We have 3 Baby Change Rooms available for shoppers. One is located on the upper level, behind Café Rousse Food Bar. Two can be found on the ground level; one tucked behind Doppio Zero and the other is behind Anat. All of our Family Rooms and Baby Change Rooms are comfortable and clean, as we have a dedicated cleaning staff available at all times to ensure the area is kept fresh.

It’s free of charge. Just visit our Guest Relations Desk at Entrance 2 or Reception at Centre Management.

Simply complete a Joining Form and we’ll create your Clearwater Mall Pensioner Wednesday Card! We’ll also give you a list of all participating stores.

Be sure to visit the Guest Relations Desk to redeem your HALF PRICE PARKING of R4 every Wednesday. *Please note that tenant promotions and the discounted parking tariff is only valid to Pensioner Wednesday members.

Wheel Chairs available!

Wheel chairs are available FREE OF CHARGE for the elderly, injured or disable. Visit our Guest Relations Desk at Entrance 2 or Reception at Centre Management outside Entrance 7. Please note that a R100 deposit is required, as well as your ID or driver’s license for the period you are using the wheel chair. Your deposit will be refunded upon the return of the wheelchair.
