PINNACLE PEAK GOLFERS
BY DREW DARROW
We have certainly been reminded that despite living in sunny Scottsdale, we still have winter here in Arizona. Remarkably, December and January were two of the coldest months on record, leading to 15 total frost delays! We hope we are through it now and on to a beautiful February, March, and April, as we enter the heart of our tournament season at the Club.
January played host to our Men’s Senior Club Championships, which produced well-deserving Champions. Congratulations to our 2023 Overall Gross Senior Club Champion Jim Gallup, our Overall Super Senior Gross Club Champion John Jacquay, and First Flight Gross Champion Bruce Hosler on their exceptional play and subsequent victories.
Congratulations are also due to all our Senior Club Championship net flight winners on their fine play. They are Craig Weaver, Rob Stewart and Jim Kroll. Complete result summaries are available in the Golf Shop. A big thank you to all who participated in this year’s competition!
Our Club match play championships are also in full swing, with round-one play through February 12th. We congratulate those of you who have been victorious in your first match and look forward to crowning our 2023 Champions.
February and March also include all of our Ladies’ and Men’s Member-Guest tournaments the Sunrise Classic, Salida del Sol, and Sunset Classic. These events never disappoint and are once again fully subscribed, as we look forward to showing off your Club to your special guests.
While the golf course and Club are enjoying exceptional activity levels, we would like to remind you of the importance of your pace of play and completing your round in less than 4 hours, regardless of the size of your group. I’m happy to report that for all three months we have been open since overseed, the average pace of play at the Club has held strong at 3 hours and 50 minutes. The old adage still holds true, it’s “keep up with the group in front of you,” not “stay in front of the group behind you.” As I like to say, golf is a game for a lifetime, but it shouldn’t take a lifetime to play!
We also appreciate your diligence in fixing all ball marks and filling all divots in overseeded areas in support of our Pride of Ownership initiatives at the Club. It takes effort from all Members and their guests to maintain the excellent playing conditions we have come to expect at PPCC.
We look forward to our next few months of golf and seeing you all at the Club soon!
