Infant, toddler and preschool classrooms utilize high-quality, comprehensive resources which empower educators to intentionally teach and care for our youngest learners during their most critical and formative years of development. We are an Education Innovator, Partner for Families and Proactive Community Partner!
CLC identifies and develops strategic community relationships to strengthen families and just educational outcomes. Partnerships include the Columbia Nurture Science Program, Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut, Parents as Co-Educators, Family Centers and Building One Community.
Head Start: ages 3-5
Early Head Start: Infant & toddler
No cost to families with income below Federal Poverty Level. Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Mental, social and emotional nurturing activities, developmental, health and dental screenings, tri-annual progress and nutritional assessments. Includes services for parents.
Child Development
Preschoolers, ages 3-5 State program in which parents/caregivers must be CT residents making no more than 75% of State Median Income. Family fees determined by the sliding scale established by the CT Office of Early Childhood. Parents/caregivers must be working or attending school.
Little Ducklings is a private pay program at CLC Palmers Hill that is open to all families. It serves infants, toddlers & preschoolers.
School Readiness
Preschoolers, ages 3-5
State program serving Stamford families through a collaboration with Stamford Board of Education and City of Stamford. In clusters established by Stamford primary-school districts.
Instructional Coordinators from Stamford Public Schools support curriculum & professional development.
OUR HISTORY:
CLC opened in 1902 as Stamford Day Nursery. It was founded as part of the Settlement House Movement and was run by ‘ women of manor houses’ to provide child care services to immigrants. During World War II, a second center was opened to accommodate working mothers in the defense industry. In 1965, the Stamford Head Start Program began serving families and in 1969, the Stamford Day Care Program began with a grant from the City of Stamford as part of the state funded day care center initiative focusing on working poor families. In October, 1997, the School Readiness Program began. In October, 1998 Early Head Start opened. In May 2002 Mayor Dannel Malloy announced an agency name change to Childcare Learning Centers. In 2016, the name was changed to Children’s Learning Centers.
To celebrate 120 years, we honored Champions of CLC every month in 2022.
