COMING IN FALL 2013: 6-month training to prepare you to work in the film industry Clayton State University Center for Continuing Education is developing a six-month training program in Fayette County to prepare you to work in the film industry. Content will cover the history and overview of the film industry with different career track opportunities in lighting, grip, production assistant, set design, costume design, wardrobe, hair, make-up and more. The program will also provide hands-on experience on the set of films and TV productions.

Basic Grammar Skills Sharpen your writing skills for school, the workplace, or social interaction.

This course focuses on the fundamentals of grammar and usage including (but not limited to) parts of speech, sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, punctuation, and capitalization. Students will learn to communicate with greater confidence and clarity on paper and on line. In addition, English speakers who are planning to study a foreign language will find that this grammar review is a most effective aid to mastery of a second language.

This certificate will provide the knowledge and skills to help improve the quality of life for older adults.

The certificate program is ideal for professionals currently working with older adults who desire additional knowledge and skills and those who are interested in joining this diverse field. The certificate is also ideal for students pursuing a degree in human development who would like to specialize in gerontology. Jewelry Making Intermediate This course will expand on the techniques learned in the basic class. The student will design and create a bracelet using a linking technique taught in the basic class. The second project will allow the student to perfect the linking technique to form a necklace and earrings using chain; also the student will participate in an open forum, which will allow the student to learn any technique that the student is interested in developing (no wirewrapping, requires more time than allowed).

Digital Photography Hands-On Immersion Would you like to take better pictures, consistently? Do you want to get more organized with your digital photo collection, or edit your digital images to make each one look its best? In just two Saturday sessions, this hands-on course covers the skills that are needed to become a better digital photographer.

It begins with camera skills. The course explains the purpose of those unfamiliar controls found on digital cameras, and how they can be used to get better results. Students will learn how to avoid exposure mistakes and how exposure controls can be used to create dramatic photographic effects. You will also learn valuable shooting techniques: how to choose the right lighting, when and how to use flash, and easy techniques for better photo composition.

The second skill is organization. Students will learn how to manage a growing collection of images on the computer, how to save steps when downloading images from the camera and how to back up photo collections for safekeeping. You will also learn software tools for “tagging” images so they are easy to find later and how to automate the process of emailing images.

The third skill is image editing. The course will help you choose the right software for your needs. It demonstrates how to improve any image with a basic edit (brightness, contrast, color balance, retouching) by doing the right steps in the right order. It also covers the powerful RAW file format, and how RAW impacts the editing workflow process. Please bring your camera, the instruction manual, and all your questions.

Teen Video Game Academy (Ages 12-16)

Teen Animation Academy on Saturdays

Are you crazy about video games? Now you can go behind the action and learn how to create your own! This participatory class will offer an information-packed introduction to the world of video game design and allow you the opportunity to use your own creativity in original game design! Ages 12-16

Whether it is beautiful hand-drawn creations, ultra realistic computer generated images, or quirky, eye-catching stop-motion characters, animation is simply the art of bringing things to life. Today, this medium is more accessible than ever before. Led by an award-winning flimmaker and educator, this course will teach students of any artistic skill level the fundamentals of animation while guiding them in creating their own animated short film. While a variety of animation forms will be covered such as Computer Generated, traditional Hand-drawn, and Flash/Web animation, the majority of the hands-on work will be spent creating your own Stop-motion film. For ages 12-16.

Learning Outcomes At course completion, students will have been able to: • Analyze several video games and study different elements - story, motion, graphics, player capabilities, features, soundtrack, etc.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: To successfully complete a course and receive a certificate with CEUs, you must attend 80% of the class sessions, actively participate and complete all course requirements.

At times of bad weather or other emergencies, University officials make decisions on whether or not to close the campus based on public safety reports and other considerations. In such cases, the safety and security of the majority of students is a prime consideration. If the University is closed, then classes are cancelled for all students. If the institution remains open, we recognize that there may be special circumstances that pertain to individual students that are more serious than those that apply to the majority. So, students are advised to use their best judgment about their safety and that of their families in those situations, and to consult with individual faculty members about making up lost time. REFUND POLICY: Clayton State University Center for Continuing Education is self-supporting, so student registration fees must cover the costs associated with developing and delivering high quality courses.

IF WE CANCEL A COURSE: Each course is closely monitored to ensure sufficient enrollment. Three business days prior to the start date, if we do not have sufficient enrollment to cover our costs, we may have to cancel or postpone the course. We will notify students by phone and email. Students may choose to receive a full refund or transfer to a different course. Before a transfer is completed, any differences in registration fees will be refunded, if amount of new course is less than original fee, or must be paid, if fee for new course is greater than original fee.

IF YOU WITHDRAW FROM A COURSE OR TRANSFER TO ANOTHER COURSE: You will be charged a 15% processing fee and receive the following:

85% refund for all withdrawals or credit towards a transfer made ten or more business days before the start date of the course

•

35% refund for all withdrawals or credit towards a transfer made three to nine business days before the start of the course

•

0% refund or credit made the day before the start date of the course or anytime following.

NOTE: Only ONE transfer is allowed.
