Public Safety Our team of highly specialized architects and interior designers offer national expertise in public safety facility design. Focused on buildings that are functional, flexible and secure, while also projecting a strong civic presence and connection to the communities these agencies serve. With our passion we bring the latest proven methods, technologies, and materials so that the cost targets, connectivity, and sustainability goals are met.

Fitzgerald Collaborative Group, LLC (FCG) is an architectural, urban design and interiors firm with offices in Atlanta, GA and Tallahassee, FL. FCG was founded in 2009 by Darrell Fitzgerald, FAIA and joined shortly after by Donald Gray.

Four other senior architects are principals: Roger Godwin, AIA, Pat Ballasch, AIA, Jeff Floyd, FAIA and Charlie Clary, FAIA. Combined, these six architects bring more than 160 years of professional experience to the firm. They have collectively been principals and/or managing principals in at least 11 successful architectural firms throughout their careers. Fitzgerald also is a certified minority-owned firm combining experience with proven performance.

AIA Unbuilt Design Award December 8, 2015

Fire Station 40 at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport won the Merit Award from the Tallahassee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for unbuilt work.

Leadership DARRELL FITZGERALD, FAIA, LEED AP PRINCIPAL

Darrell is the managing principal, bringing over 39 years of experience in planning and design. He is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania in architectural programs. His background includes strategic project development, master planning, design, management, and documentation of architectural projects. Before forming the Fitzgerald Collaborative, Darrell spent 12 years as a Principal with Gensler in Atlanta and Houston, and 20 years as Vice President and Managing Principal with the office of John S. Chase, FAIA, in Dallas and Houston, Texas.

DONALD GRAY JR., ASSOCIATE AIA PRINCIPAL Donald serves the firm as principal, urban designer and project manager with over 13 years of experience. He is a graduate of the urban design program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and architecture programs at the University of Michigan and Florida A&M University. He brings a background in design research, including elderly urban environmental issues in city redevelopment, eastern city formation, and vernacular housing typologies of Florida.

W. JEFF FLOYD, FAIA PRINCIPAL

For more than 40 years, Jeff has been a leader in providing innovative planning, architectural, and development services.

His experience includes strategic planning and the shepherding of complex projects for more than 100 campus, church, healthcare, civic and corporate clients in the U.S. and internationally, representing over 60 million square feet of facilities.

He brings a $2 billion track record for balancing scope, quantity and quality to achieve the client’s goals. He recently has been developing senior care communities for churches across the Southeast.

CHARLES W. CLARY III, FAIA PRINCIPAL

Throughout his career, Charlie has contributed to the architectural profession and to the State of Florida’s legislative process, and his efforts have been recognized by numerous professional service awards. As the founding principal of Fitzgerald Collaborative Group, he is involved in overseeing all of the firm’s projects. In 1996, Charlie was elected to the Florida Senate and served for 10 years —the first architect ever to serve in the state senate. Although his legislative career ended in 2006, due to term limits, his legislative efforts and dedication to public service continues today.

PATRICK BALLASCH, AIA, LEED AP PRINCIPAL

Patrick is the Senior Design Principal for the firm. A graduate of the University of Florida, he participated in the Vicenza Institute of Architecture in Vicenza, Italy, and is a registered architect in the State of Florida. Pat’s design work has been recognized on the local and state levels with many honor awards from the American Institute of Architects and other organizations. He currently serves as a State Director for the AIA.

ROGER T. GODWIN, AIA, LEED AP PRINCIPAL

Roger came to the firm from his previous position as Managing Director of Gensler Atlanta, one of the largest architectural and interior design firms in the country. Throughout his career, he has worked with some of the leading clients in the southeast, including Bank of America, Georgia Pacific, Coca- Cola, Newell Rubbermaid, and UPS, among others. His passion for design is now evidenced in work he is leading throughout the Southeast.
