Welcome to the 52nd Annual CLAS Convention! We are pleased that you are in attendance and look forward to you having an amazing experience.

Bob Lawry CLAS President

Serving as your CLAS President this year has been a very humbling and rewarding experience. Being provided the opportunities to see all the work both CLAS and our schools are doing in Alabama has been powerful. There are so many great experiences offered to the children of Alabama which are beneficial in shaping their future, and this makes me honored to be associated with Alabama education. The work CLAS does, well that is second to none, and it has been a pleasure to work with them and represent CLAS. CLAS is an amazing organization, but this past year I have been fortunate enough to see that from the inside as well. The work of the twelve affiliates continues to grow our state. The opportunities the affiliates provide in professional development, networking, and support has been very beneficial to me as well as others that I talk to regarding the opportunities. If you are active in your affiliate, you know exactly what I am referencing; if you are not active in your affiliate, I encourage you to do so. The theme for the 52nd CLAS Conference is Meeting Challenges. Seizing Opportunities. As an educator, this is built into your DNA. Every day you are faced with multiple challenges and multiple opportunities. Most of these you are successful with because that is what we do. We tend to focus on the ones that we may not have accomplished on the first attempt. While this can be a good thing, because it causes us to reevaluate and look closer at the challenges and opportunities, we need to keep it in perspective. I would like to challenge you to continue to review the missed challenges and opportunities but remind yourself of the hundreds, if not thousands, of challenges and opportunities you did meet. We strive for perfection every day, but we don’t need to lose ourselves for the missed opportunity and ignore the successful challenges and opportunities that were seized. My challenge is to spend more time reflecting on the great job you do and sharing the positive focus with those you encounter each day - it is infectious. It has been the most humbling job in my career to serve as your CLAS President. If there is anything I can do for you, for your district, or for your affiliate, please let me know. While I take my affiliate role very seriously, I am a servant for education and any way I can be of assistance would be an honor.

Sincerely, Dr. Bob Lawry, Ed.D. CLAS President

Vic Wilson CLAS Executive Director

Dear friends and colleagues, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 52nd annual CLAS Convention. As the Executive Director of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, I am honored to have you join us for what promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring event. This year’s theme, “Meeting Challenges. Seizing Opportunities.” is particularly relevant as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of education. The past year has presented unprecedented challenges for our schools, but we have also seen incredible opportunities for growth and innovation. At this year’s convention, we will explore these challenges and opportunities together, sharing ideas and strategies for how we can best serve our students and communities. With engaging speakers, informative sessions, and valuable networking opportunities, this convention is the perfect place to learn, grow, and connect with your fellow educators. Thank you for being a part of this important event, and I look forward to seeing you all there. Sincerely,

Paul V. Wilson, Ed.D. Executive Director

In 2022 and 2023 AASPA hosted a national educator shortage summit, bringing together representatives from state departments of education, higher education institutions, and PK-12 Districts. The result of this gathering yielded a comprehensive and systematic call to action that put forth recommendations and strategies that can be used to chart a pathway forward. This session will explore the current national snapshot of educator shortage and dive into strategies and ideas for PK-12 leaders. Monday 8:00 - 9:15 Monday 10:15 - 11:30
