Community Engagement programs are offered throughout the academic year. These include but are not limited to: professional development workshops (local and international), study abroad, international faculty development seminars, summer research fellowships, curriculum development projects, school visit programs, lecture and film series, resource lending library, newsletters and publications. • $400 Pitt Royal sponsorship (company name and logo included in our program, and a complimentary table and parking at the event).

• $1,500+ Pitt Panther sponsorship (company name, logo, and sponsorship level included in all of our event promotional materials and programming, year round publicity on our festival webpage, a complimentary table, and parking at the event, and recognition throughout the event).

The event features Latin American and Caribbean musicians, artists and craftspeople, delicious regional cuisine, traditional dance performances, and entertaining activities for children. The Festival is the largest gathering of the Latin American and Latinx communities in Western Pennsylvania, attracting more than 3,000 people yearly. We are expecting more participants than ever in our 2022 edition.

CLAS Community Internships: The aim of the internship is to involve CLAS certificate student(s) in organizations that work in and with the Latinx community in Southwestern Pennsylvania and leverage the skills and language acquired during their course of studies at the University of Pittsburgh. We work with the organization to develop the internships that work for both the student as well as the company or organization.

CLAS Cinema: Each year, CLAS offers a curated film series to enhance learning on Latin American, the Caribbean, and their diverse diasporic communities. The festival has had many years of success and every year it seems to improve in the number and quality of groups that participate and the scope of media coverage. As the Latino and Hispanic population in Pittsburgh continue to grow, it makes the Festival one of the largest gatherings of Latinos in Western Pennsylvania. The mission of the festival is to showcase the cultures of Latin America in Pittsburgh and to inform the students and the general public of the resources that can be found in Pittsburgh. https:// www.ucis.pitt.edu/clas/festival

K 16 School Visit Program: (We could use a sponsor to cover the transportation of our students to the schools and be able to go to West Virginia, Ohio and PA remote places and do the visits). CLAS students are available to visit K 16 classrooms to share their knowledge on Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinx topics. The presentations are interactive, available in English/Spanish, and engage area students in discussions and activities on various themes. https://www.ucis.pitt.edu/clas/k_12

Learn about this Mexican holiday where people welcome back the souls of their passed loved ones for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. An alter will be displayed in the Global Hub during this time open to the Pitt community.

Our workshop is available to Pittsburgh area K 12 teachers and community groups. Our goal is to promote literacy and encourage creativity using recycled materials for language acquisition, social studies, creative writing, art, and sustainability.

The I Stand With Immigrants Initiative leads narrative campaigns that empower immigrant and their allies to share stories and drive action that demonstrates immigration is good for our communities, economy, and country. The goal is to encourage everyone to explore their individual heritage and celebrate both our distinct and shared experiences.

November 2: National I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action Event

Alebrijes are whimsical carvings depicting animals, people, objects, and imaginary creatures painted with intense colors and intricate patterns. This workshop allows students and community members to paint their own alebrije and learn about this Mexican folk art tradition.

CLAS has partnered with the Global Studies Center to introduce topics associated with the sustainability, development and conservation of the Amazon region. This course introduces significant topics associated with the sustainability of the Amazon region, where more than 30 million people live, inside an area comprising part of nine countries in South America. David B. Houston Human Rights and Social Justice in Latin America Scholarship Award Fund: Provides a cash award to students who demonstrate a clear professional commitment to social issues in Latin America.

OPTIONS FOR DONATIONS:

• Center for Latin American Studies Endowed Student Resource Fund: Established in honor of Luz Amanda Hank and Luis Van Fossen Bravo for their significant contributions to the Center for Latin American Studies. Note: upon their retirement the fund name will be revised to the Luz Amanda Hank and Luis Van Fossen Bravo Endowed Fund. Provides financial support for travel and other educational expenses to undergraduate students who are conducting research in Latin America.

• The Shirley Kregar Scholarship Fund: Supports study and research by undergraduate students in Latin America.

• Eduardo Lozano Memorial Dissertation Award Fund: Provides a cash award for the best doctoral dissertation at the University of Pittsburgh on a topic related to Latin America, the Caribbean, or Latin American communities in other countries.

7 ENDOWMENTS: With a minimum commitment of $10,000, an endowed fund may be established and named in honor or memory of the donor, a designated person, or an entity. Please contact clas@pit.edu or call 412-6487395, for further information regarding this donation option.

SPECIFIC PROGRAM/CATEGORY

• Latin American Archaeology Program Fund: Provides fellowships (primarily for students from Latin America) to pursue PhD studies in archaeology and publishes a series of bilingual volumes on archaeological research in Latin America.

• Research and Teaching Fund: Supports faculty and student research, faculty and student travel to professional meetings, conferences/symposium/workshops, courses, curriculum development, lectures, and performances.

• Brazilian Studies Program Fund: Supports Visiting Brazilian Scholars and events/activities that focus on Brazil (including conferences/symposium/workshops, courses, curriculum development, lectures, and performances).

• Fabiola Aguirre Scholarship Fund: Supports full or partial scholarships for female students (preferably from Latin America) studying environmental science.
