THE WIDE AND INCLUSIVE CURRICULUM HAS ASPIRATION AT ITS CORE, NOT JUST ACADEMIC, BUT EXCELLENCE AS SET BY THE INDIVIDUAL.
It is my pleasure to introduce you to our vibrant and nurturing school community. Here at Claremont, we believe in helping your child to foster a love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
Claremont is a school that celebrates individuality. Our supportive environment allows every child to flourish and discover their unique talents, whether on the sporting or drama stage, the music or coding keyboard, saving financially or environmentally, designing as an artist or an engineer, our co-curricular programme plays a key part too in nurturing that sense of belonging and empowering our pupils and students to pursue their passions.
Our expansive curriculum offers a stimulating blend of academic rigour and creative exploration. At GCSE pupils devote more time to the core English, mathematics and science curriculums than any other subject, but with 28 GCSEs and over 30 A levels to choose from, we empower our pupils to be proactive in shaping their futures. Our ambitious Joyce Grenfell enrichment programme and Aspire programme are shaped to spark ambition, knowledge and understanding, whatever your child’s interests; our curriculum is always evolving to respond to this exciting and ever changing world. The vast majority of our pupils head to Russell Group universities, but where other routes are better still for their interests, be that graduate apprenticeship schemes or more creativity, our careers programme supports our pupils.
As a community that values a breadth of interaction within and beyond the school gates, our vertical pastoral structure celebrates the gains from being supported in smaller groups and interaction with both younger and older pupils. Your child’s tutor sees every individual as more than just another face in the crowd. We see the promise in every child, and we are dedicated to helping them to be limitless in potential. So, if you are looking for a school that fosters academic ambition, celebrates individuality, and allows you to be you, Claremont is the place for you!
We warmly invite you to explore our school today, meet our pupils and teachers and discover why Claremont could be the perfect fit for your child’s exciting educational journey.
William Brierly, headmaster. We want our pupils to be ambitious in their goals, to challenge themselves, to have a go at new things and to achieve - both inside and outside the classroom.
Pastoral care, alongside our high academic reputation and broad co-curricular programme is central to our impressive school where each child is valued, encouraged, challenged and supported to unleash their potential.
Our school community is well known for its tight-knit, warm and inclusive feel. Our students leave us, not only having achieved excellent academic outcomes, but also having established life-long friendships and an enduring connection with Claremont.
In accordance with our mission, Claremont develops individuals who are outstanding citizens, aware of their responsibility to others and contribute positively to global society.
We realise this by being a high-quality school of choice where young people achieve more than they think is possible.
Goodness underpins this school. Teachers, staff, pupils and their families are expected to support and extend the atmosphere of respect, courtesy, the love of learning and the value of friendship that is held dear at Claremont. This peaceful and purposeful intent extends throughout every lesson and into the pastoral and co-curricular activities we offer.
Young people leave Claremont as confident, contributing and caring members of the global community. They cherish the values that equip them to make a positive contribution and be a force for good in the world.
On arrival, you will have a welcome talk from the headmaster. Joining him will be our assistant head co-curricular, Mrs James, and a panel of students. This will take place in the Joyce Grenfell centre.
Following the welcome talk, you will have the opportunity to self tour our 100 acre campus and explore various subject areas at your leisure. Inside this handout, you will find a map detailing the locations of different subject areas. Don’t forget to complete your sticker hunt!
Pupil guided tours
If you’d rather opt for a guided tour led by our students, please visit the new dining hall (marked as point 2 on your map). There we will match you up with our fantastic tour guides who will show you around our campus.
Upon your arrival, refreshments will be served in the Joyce Grenfell centre. Additionally, you’ll find refreshments available in the Drawing Room located within the mansion.
If you have any questions during your visit, keep an eye out for students wearing ‘Ask Me a Question’ badges or locate a staff member identifiable by their Claremont staff lanyard. For further assistance, our admissions department, along with our deputy heads of pastoral and academic, can be found in the mansion.
Upon arrival, you will have been handed a sticker hunt card. As you explore the campus, be sure to stay vigilant for the sticker stations. Tip: utilise the clues provided to aid your search! Once you’ve filled your sticker card, bring it to the mansion and head to the drawing room, where a delicious treat awaits you!

The Claremont Aspire programme is a new initiative designed to spark your child’s intellectual curiosity and equip them with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Open to all interested students from Years 7 to 10, the programme offers lunchtime group tutorial sessions on a wide range of engaging topics outside the regular curriculum, such as Law, current affairs, computer science, classics, and psychology.
The Joyce Grenfell academic enrichment programme offers your child a range of extra, timetabled qualifications in the sixth form, with wider enrichment experiences throughout each term.
This sixth form programme is an extension of our academic curriculum and will allow your child to gain additional qualifications outside of their A level subject choices. On offer are the highly respected Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), alongside a range of other qualifications such as TEFL, LAMDA, university Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), sports coaching qualifications, and the English Speaking Board: Advanced Certificate in Spoken English.
The wider enrichment programme coordinates a series of internal and external academic competitions, the Inspire lectures, workshops, trips and other opportunities for all of our students throughout every year group.
Higher education support is also included, with an emphasis on preparing students for high-level university applications, as well as applications for Law and medical sciences.
The Joyce Grenfell programme is designed to:
• Foster independent study, research and extended writing skills in preparation for university
• Gain additional qualifications outside of A level subject choices allow students to gain extra points towards their overall UCAS score, support the expectation from universities that students can demonstrate independent thinking, intellectual curiosity and an interest in the subject that they wish to study
We recently celebrated our centenary, reflecting on our growth from 40 students to nearly 1200 across three schools. New buildings like the Sir Sydney Camm building and the refurbished Stable Court exemplify this expansion. We are now developing a new masterplan for the next few decades, focusing on improved facilities and teaching spaces:
• Joyce Grenfell centre theatre upgrade: This long-awaited project will include new lighting, rigging, and cascade bench seating to increase the theatre’s capacity and enhance the performance experience.
• The Great Room as a library: The Great Room is the centre piece of the mansion and has had many uses over the years- a dining hall, library, gallery, assembly hall and even a gymnasium. This central space will be transformed into a library and collaborative learning area, offering dedicated study space and fostering a vibrant academic atmosphere.
• Music classrooms: Building on the new peripatetic music rooms in Stable Court, the coach houses will be converted into dedicated music classrooms, creating a music hub within the school.
• Multi-purpose sports pitch: Construction of this all-weather pitch is currently being planned with the help of specialists to ensure a smooth approval process. The pitch will offer year-round access for various sports like hockey, football, lacrosse, and tennis.
These projects aim to elevate our facilities and provide students with a more enriching learning and extracurricular experience.

We welcome bursary applications from families who cannot afford the fees in full or in part. All applications for bursaries are considered on the basis of individual circumstances and are means-tested. Bursaries are available in addition to a scholarship or on their own.
Families who wish to explore financial support should contact the bursar’s department on 01372 473602 or email bursar@claremont.surrey.sch.uk for more information about the application process.
