When we started brainstorming for this project, we were inspired by the enclosure created from park gazebos. The first, folded object creates different levels of enclosure through the different folds from the triangles. The angles will always be different depending on the first angle you choose when folding. The materials we used were stone and brick. These were used to bring a more “home” feel to the enclosure, where it works as a park gazebo by bringing the inside, outside.

Final Rule Set:

Step One

Starting with a 10” x 10” surface, you will then come up with three different lines that must connect two adjacent edges of the square surface. In doing this, you should have created four total triangles. For all of the triangles along the outside, use the offset tool by a minimum of ½ inch. Finally, connect all of the midpoints of the offsetted triangles, creating 4 more triangles.Repeat this for all triangles (including middle triangle). Set off another place to the side and draw three half hexagons, creating 3 perfect triangles along that edge, 9 total triangles on the terrain plane. This plain will be the terrain.

Step Two

Once you have all of your surfaces completed, you will then start rotating the triangles on the main object downwards about 45 degrees. Once you have done your first triangle, align a new surface plane with the bottom of the folded triangle. This will act as a reference and be the basis for the rest of your folds. This will be deleted before the end. Continue folding the rest of the offset triangles downward with respect to the floor. These will all revolve around the center triangle in which it connects the resort of the triangles. Repeat until all of the triangles on the top surface are folded down with respect to the reference plane. You will fold down the outer two triangles of the lower terrain plain, once all of the triangles of the top object have been folded.

Step Three

After all of your triangles have been folded downwards together, you will see that little rooms or enclosures have been created by the folds. You will end this project by aligning the bottom structure with the top structure, making sure that all of the folded triangles on the top object are touching the top surface of the terrain plane.
