Ground floor new lounge has a cinematic inspired scheme using a monochrome palette - allowing the artwork to stand out. The artwork are film posters that were filmed or/and popular in Wales.

The ground floor lounge extension takes inspiration from the industrial history of the site. This is done through the use of black metals and dark wooden finishes. Neutral colours and hints of orange are utilised giving it a brighter and warmer feel.

Project 04: Day Space 2 & Servery Refurb

The design proposal for the day space has darker, deeper colours, brass metal finishes, arched moulding and beading reflecting the grandness of the home. Regarding woodwork e.g. skirting, architrave and coving have all made bespoke to match with the existing.

Although the prime colours are plums - accents of royal blues through the wallpaper and accessories gives it a nice contrast. Lastly, the use of specific furniture emphasises the traditional and grand look of the home.

Full Refurb - Specialist Dementia Home

The purpose of this design is to provide a full refurbishment with 32 bedrooms with 4 lounges, a sensory room, 3 communal bathrooms and one wetroom. The building will be subdivided for specialist and complex dementia.

Bedrooms will require profile beds, LVT flooring, a high back chair, a TV which can be seen from both the bed and the chair with ease, furniture to include; a chest of drawers, wardrobe, bedside table with a lockable drawer to store all their items.

Communal day spaces will have both a lounge and dining area. Within each area specialised furniture will be provided e.g. a mixture of high back arms chairs to suit everyone.

The Student Hub Project Design Statement:

The intention of the project is to design a multi-cultural residential hub for art & design students. Interaction and being able to socialise in a new environment can be challenging and uncomfortable, especially for multi-cultural groups. Therefore, easing their process of place making, supports cultural diversity. This is particularly seen during university, due to many races and cultures merging, learning and adapting as one. Hence why a central hub for students is a valid function today, as it solves the declining issue of place making by creating communities and a sense of belonging.

1. Amtico Flooring

Fawn oak in large parquet. The light LVT wooden flooring, adds warmth and lightens the space.

2. Oak Timber

Beams stained in a dark oak colour. Doors in English oak wood. The dark colour creates a contrast from the walls and flooring.

3. Westex Flooring

Hardwick carpet from Westex flooring. Carpet to be placed in bedrooms. Carpet gives the room more warmth, comfort and feelings of home.

4. Existing Brick Work

The existing brick work has been preserved and to be cleaned and treated appropriately. It adds an industrial look while also, giving the space more character.

Grey 02 - adds a cooler tone to the space. But still light enough to keep the space bright.

Carlow (CLW24) - a warm white shade of upholstery. Creates a clean warm look.

Adds a natural element into the space, as well as increasing productivity and cleaner air.

GENERAL ARRANGEMENT PLAN DRAWING NOT TO SCALE

The Mercedes Benz competition was a collaborative project. Working in teams of four we were asked to design a proposal for a client’s showroom situated in Tamworth. Our design aim and vision was to create an open plan space, limiting walls so all users can feel invited as well as saving costs with materials. Technology is a key theme within our proposal, engaging the users into a new generation of car design. Projection screens will reduce costs within the space, as we will limit the amount of materials needed and instead focus the design on projection imagery.

MATERIALS BOARD

Within our scheme we decided to use the same colours that Mercedes use within their brand, that way their is a coherent theme of the showroom and Mercedes. We will also be including accents of blue within our design, to give a focal point within the project.

Focusing on the Mercedes brand, we incorporated the colours within the materials we have specified. Using textures to add more depth, as well as keeping the design minimal with the amount of manufacturers we have specified , to reduce CO2 emissions and overall reduce the costs for the design proposal.

Welcome to Birmingham’s first Ruin Bar!

Birmingham is an accumulation of various cultures and diversity, full of life and fun. Aiming to invite that energy back into the once abandoned and almost lost site. Through a multi-purpose bar design that transforms into a stage, creating casual and spontaneous setting inspired by the Budapest Ruin Bars. Flexibility, spontaneity and brining Birmingham’s unique and diverse culture within the bar has inspired the design. We have incorporated fold-able tables, chairs which aren’t being used to be hung on the wall and also glazed glass flooring which reveals a historical element to the building.

Overall, the space invites its customers by using warm rich tones of wood with the complimentary existing brickwork, however contemporary touches included with the facade of the bar and also the glass flooring.

Happy Hour Floor Plan

The detachable bar allows the space to be multifunctional. It gives users the option to extend the bar and have multiple people serving at either end of the bar.

Open Mic Floor Plan

The bar can be detached and rotated against the wall to create a stage performance for entertainment. The flooring underneath is glazed to showcase the existing metal stamp presses. Additionally, the glazed flooring acts as a stage, separating the two uses.
