01 SOL NACIENTE HOTEL, RESORT & CONVENTION CENTER

-made through collaborationSol Naciente is a Proposed 5-star Hotel located at Brgy.

Carmen, Silang, Cavite with an area of 26.88 hectares. It promotes Filipino architecture, with the integration of sustainable design through the use of various green design solutions.

“Sol Naciente” means “Rising Sun” in Spanish and “Silang” or “Silangan” in Tagalog. This was adapted to the design in order to commemorate the greatness of Cavite which is known as the “Historical Capital of the Philippines.”

The form of “Rice Terraces” was integrated to the the design. It is connected to the project’s name which is Sol Naciente, where the sun serves as an integral component in growing crops, and the project’s location which is Silang, Cavite that is known for its Agricultural economy.

Its stair-like features also symbolizes growth and progress, synonymous to the rising sun.

-made through collaborationH.I.V.E. is a proposed mart, sustainable, and high-tech, 10-storey building in Batangas State University, Alangilan.

It provide sustainable responses for a changing world that will benefit the users, thus this promotes a sense of renewed connection to the natural environment by the integration of innovative technology and green architectural innovation.

FORM EVOLUTION From the domestic bee’s natural built structure, create a pattern.

Pull the smaller hexagons on top of the podium.

Connect the podium on its respective sides.

Arrive at the building’s final form.

DESIGN CONCEPT The hexagonal shape of natural honeycomb construction design employed by hive-building insects (bees) will be the form of the project.

A hexagonal honeycomb is the way to fit the most area with the least perimeter. From a bee’s perspective, that means storing more honey in a larger volume while spending less energy in building a structure to contain it. And spaceefficiency isn’t the only benefit of building with hexagons. It also provides a high compression strength. Beehives also dissipate heat well, preventing the waxy structure from melting on hot days. Efficiency, strength, and controlled heat loss are all important for human structures as well, so it’s no wonder that honeycombs can inspire human design.

The genius of the honeycomb system lies in the combination of unity of design, infinite repetition and balance on one hand, and the highest levels of functionality and economy on the other hand. The constructed infinite hexagonal gives beauty of shape, precision in design and saving in material.

03 BIO-HOPE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

-UNDERGRADUATE THESISBio-Hope Center is a Proposed Mental Health Center to be located in San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan.

It represents the basic change in social attitude as to where and how the mentally ill must be treated. It is a facility that houses assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and social integration having considered the high-security and sensitivity of the mentally-ill. This suggests therapeutic, holistic, and homely ambiance together with biophilic approach which may contribute to the healing of the patients.

This project will bring light and hope to people with mental illnesses by giving them the chance to heal despite of the hardships in life. This will also enable patients to be respected by humankind through bringing out their best regained potential to contribute to the society in the future.

ABOUT THE SITE THE 10 HECTARES’ (107,402 SQ.M.) SITE IS AN INSIDE TYPE OF LOT FACING THE NORTH-WEST DIRECTION. IT IS SITUATED WITHIN THE SPECIAL DEVELOPMENT ZONE 2 (SDZ-2) OR MIXED USED DEVELOPMENT ZONE WHICH ALLOWS RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, INSTITUTIONAL, RECREATION AND UTILITY USES. IT IS ALONG ANDRES BIJASA ROAD (BARANGAY ROAD) WHICH IS A 5 METERS WIDE CITY ROAD ON THE NORTH- WEST PART SIDE, HAVING A LEVEL TO GENTLY SLOPING LOT AS ITS TOPOGRAPHICAL CONDITION. THE SITE EXPERIENCES A TROPICAL CLIMATE WITH AN AVERAGE ANNUAL TEMPERATURE OF 27.6°C, AND MEAN MONTHLY FIGURES THAT RANGES FROM 25.6°C IN JANUARY AND 29.6°C IN MAY.

THE VILLAGE CONCEPT IS APPLIED TO THIS PROJECT WHERE BUILDINGS OF DIFFERENT FORMS ARE CONNECTED BY STREETS. THIS WILL ALSO HELP THE PATIENTS AND OTHER USERS TO MOVE FREE AND APPRECIATE THEIR NATURAL SURROUNDINGS. THE ADVANTAGE OF THIS IS EASY TO PHASE, EASY TO EXPAND, PROVIDES NATURAL AMBIANCE, EASY TO MODULARIZED AND FAST CONSTRUCTION.

THE CONCEPT THE DESIGN CONCEPT OF THIS PROJECT IS THE SEMI-COLON BUTTERFLY. IT SERVES AS A REPRESENTATION OF WHAT THE PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH ILLNESSES GO THROUGH. THE BUTTERFLY SYMBOLIZES TRANSFORMATION. FROM A CATERPILLAR TO A BUTTERFLY, IT’S A BEAUTIFUL REBIRTH THAT SYMBOLIZES COMING OUT FROM A DARK PLACE THAT WAS SHADOWED BY STRUGGLES OF MENTAL ILLNESS. BUTTERFLIES ALSO SYMBOLIZE FREEDOM, SHOWCASING HOW PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS CAN BREAK AWAY FROM THEIR DEEP DARK EMOTIONS AND CAN BE FREE. THE BUTTERFLY HAVE BODY PARTS WHICH ITS FUNCTION HAS SIMILARITIES ON THE PROJECT, WHICH IS THEN APPLIED TO THE PROJECT. WHILE, THE SEMICOLON REPRESENTS HOPE FOR THOSE WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE AS A WAY TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO KEEP GOING. IT IS A SIMPLE, VISUAL REMINDER THAT WE ARE THE AUTHORS OF OUR LIVES AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE OUR STORIES, EVEN IN OUR DARKEST MOMENTS. THE CURVY CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SEMI-COLON WHICH CAN POSITIVELY IMPACT THE PROJECT USERS AS WELL AS THE NATURAL CONDITION OF THE SITE, IS APPLIED TO THE BUILDING FORMS.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY

The form of the Residential Treatment Facility follows the terrain and the existing sequence of the trees located at the rear side of the building.

Green spaces has also been provided at all sides of the building to provide natural shade and ventilation.

MENTAL WELLNESS CENTER

The form of the Mental Wellness Center follows the terrain of the site.

Green spaces has also been provided at all sides of the building to provide natural shade and ventilation.

Moreover, the location of the Mental Wellness Center is decided as it should be near the entrance.

INPATIENT DORMITORY & SOCIAL REINTEGRATION BUILDING

The form of the Inpatient Block is a combination of L-shaped and U-shaped configuration.

L-shaped configurations are stable and selfsupporting, and can stand alone in space. Because they are open ended, they are flexible space designing elements. They can be used with other Lshaped or U-shaped configurations.

A U-shaped configuration has an inward focus as well as an outward orientation. The open end allows to have visual and spatial continuity. The 2 central portions are used as courtyard.

Moreover, the location of the Inpatient Block is decided as it should be at the rear part of the site, to provide a better privacy and security for all the building users.

TRAINING CENTER & STAFF DORMITORY

The form of both the Training Center and Staff Dormitory is L-shaped configuration, which maximizes the window area for the incidence of sunlight for the living areas in the inner corner, especially on narrow plots. In addition, the angle creates a more intimate situation, protected from wind and observation, which many people want to see and feel.

Moreover, the location of the Training Center and Staff Dorm is decided as it should be near an the Residential Treatment Facility and the Inpatient Dormitory.

04 RESIDENTIAL HOUSE TWO-STOREY RESIDENTIAL HOUSE IN LIPA CITY, BATANGAS

The Proposed 2-storey Residential House in Lipa City, Batangas adapted the philosophy of “Less is more,” through applying Japandi Design Style.

Japandi Style is is a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian styles. It focuses on simplicity, natural elements, comfort, and sustainability.

05 RESIDENTIAL HOUSE LASIG RESIDENCE RESTORATION IN LIPA CITY, BATANGAS

The Lasig Residence is an ancestral house built on 1940's.

It faces east which gives it a good natural ventilation. It has 2 floors -with wooden (madre de kakao) columns, capiz windows, walls made of wood, and floor finished with polished concrete and wood (yakal).

It already seen a lot of memories, so it faces a lot of problems that must be restored and improved. Renovation is also ideal, but, restoration is better to retain the heritage of the house. It also has minimal environmental impact, and more cost-effective than renovating or remodeling.

06 LA PETITE VILLE PH PLAYHOUSE SERIES

In this digital age, children are spending too much time indoors using technology and too little time outside in the fresh air.

La Petite Ville or “The Little City” is a series of small model houses designed specifically for children, as well as for adults with a heart of child.

It is a space for children to create make-believe scenarios using their artistic abilities and creativity. They will have the opportunity to engage in role-playing which improves social and logical reasoning as well as creative thinking.
