Dr. Omar Bagasra, the director of the S.C. Center for Biotechnology at Claflin, is shown talking to faculty members from the Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan where he led the effort to establish a vaccine center. Bagasra and Claflin University were also awarded U.S. patent for the development of a research process that could lay the groundwork for a potential preventative vaccine for HIV.

Claflin University President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale and First Lady Alice Carson Tisdale announced a gift of $250,000 to the University; $150,000 of the funds will endow a professorship in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines.

The Tisdales’ gift will also support two endowed scholarships, the Alice Carson Tisdale Endowed Scholarship in Education, and the Henry N. Tisdale Endowed Scholarship in Mathematics. Moreover, the gift provides scholarship support for students in other disciplines and student athletes.
