CHAPTER I: ARCHIVE LIBRARY OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL COMPLEX ARCHIVE PROJECT WITH JILLIAN OLIGSCHLAEGER The archive library sits at the southern end of the Obama Presidential Complex as a building to house and celebrate items from the Obama Presidency. This project brings the archive collection into the center of the building and treats it like a jewel acting as a symbol of curiosity. The archive shoots through a central atrium, and the users can get very close, especially on the ground level and when going up the stairs, and the design makes the archive visible to the public at all times, while still maintaining the security and privacy.

CHAPTER II: CHICAGO FIELDHOUSE PAPER-ARTS + PRINTMAKING SPACE 3924 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago The “fieldhouse without a field” imagines a Chicago Park District Fieldhouse outside of a park, focusing on the building function as a community center. The project is based on a constant circulation journey around “blocks” that guide non-printmaking users to investigate different programs within paper-arts and printmaking, while the more experienced printmakers have a direct path to workspaces.

CHAPTER III: ADAPTIVE REUSE LIBRARY THOMAS A. DORSEY PUBLIC LIBRARY, PILGRIM BAPTIST CHURCH 3301 S Indiana Ave, Chicago The historic Pilgrim Baptist Church is located in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood at the intersection of S Indiana Avenue and E 33rd St. The church is recognized as “The Birthplace of Gospel.”

Following a series of fires, only two primary walls remains, but respecting the the significance of the church to the neighborhood, the project looks towards gospel music for inspiration in design moves. The massing and footprint of the library respects the boundaries of the orginal building, with moves based on the original window locations.

CHAPTER IV: MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING MIXED-USE APARTMENT 232 E 79th St, Greater Grand Crossing, Chicago The project is a mixed-use residential apartment in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. The building required fourteen units comprising of one bedroom, two bedroom, and studio units. The project focuses on a meandering circulation throughout the building, with the atrium being a central anchor point as the user follows the building shifts.

CHAPTER V: ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT SHELLED SHELTER STANDARD 125’ x 25’ LOT IN BRIDGEPORT, CHICAGO The Chicago Accessory Dwelling Unit is based on Chicago ordinance passed in 2020 allowing for small units. The project is a nested shell that reframes the relationship between public and private living. The communal spaces are surrounded only by the external shell, while the private zones are within the plywood walls. The openings are a portal between the ADU residents and the rest of the neighborhood. The building form breaks from traditional typology, while still respecting the massing present in the area.
