AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ECON Walk through a gallery of light.

A permanently-installed lighting composition, designed by Harlem-based Focus Lighting, will allow local artists to produce new light art for the Arches every three months. This stunning and iconic structure can develop into one of NYC’s leading destinations.

• In a past survey by the Joint Legislative Committee on Cultural Afffairs, 99% of CEOs surveyed stated that the availibility of cultural activities in an area is an important consideration in choosing a new location.

• Two-thirds (65%) of American adult travelers include a cultural, arts, heritage, or historic activity or event on a trip of 50 miles or more.

• The arts are part of New Yorkers’ lives - 49% of New Yorkers attend musical performances, 43% visit museums and galleries, and 36% attend theaters both on and off Broadway.

Similar Projects Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s 2005 “The Gates” installation at Central Park attracted over 4 million visitors from around the world during its 15-day run.

ABOUT SAVONA BAILEY-McCLAIN Savona Bailey-McClain is the Executive Director & Chief Curator of the West Harlem Art Fund, which has organized high-profile public art exhibits throughout New York City for the past 18 years, including Times Square, DUMBO, Soho, Governors Island and Harlem. Her public art installations encompass sculpture, drawings, performance, sound, and mixed media, and have been covered extensively by the New York Times, Art Daily, Artnet, Los Angeles Times and Huffington Post, among many others.
