Western’s Communication Efforts Receive Top Statewide Honors CAPIO EPIC Awards recognize the best-of-the-best in government communications Riverside, Calif. - Western Municipal Water District (Western) received four 2018 Excellence in Public Information and Communications (EPIC) awards from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO). The District was recognized for its ongoing community relations and marketing efforts associated with the La Sierra Pipeline Project, and also for its company newsletter The Splash. “Western is proud to have a top-notch Community Affairs Department, and we are honored that their work has received statewide recognition,” said Western’s General Manager Craig Miller. “Transparent communications with the communities we serve is a top priority of the District.” Western brings home the awards in the following categories: • •

The Splash, Western’s internal newsletter, was awarded top honors for keeping it employees informed of Western’s people, projects and programs. • •
Marketing Plans/Campaigns - La Sierra Pipeline Project – Award of Distinction Community Relations/Participation - La Sierra Pipeline Project – Award of Distinction
The La Sierra Pipeline Project outreach was honored for its comprehensive and transparent community relations and outreach for a $36 million water reliability project to increase local supply. Through strategic communication and outreach Western’s Community Affairs team successfully educated and communicated the project to regional stakeholders. The CAPIO EPIC Awards program recognizes and honors outstanding professional work and accomplishment. Finalists are honored with a first place EPIC Award or the second place Award of Distinction. Awards were presented during CAPIO’s annual awards event in mid-April. CAPIO is a statewide professional organization boasting nearly 600 members and serving public sector communications professionals by providing California-focused education, training and networking.
