Simcox Construction (a division of Isaac Construction) has successfully held Marlborough District Council’s ‘Rivers and Drainage Maintenance Heavy Plant’ contract since its inception back in 1995.
The result of this continuity is that it has developed a large pool of skilled and long serving staff that are now hugely knowledgeable in where the district’s $200m worth of floodway assets are, how they work, and how to maintain, renew and construct them. More importantly, the result of this continuity is that the Simcox team is trusted. Trusted to bill accurately, trusted to be respectful, polite and professional with landowners and stakeholders, trusted as an organisation to be there on Christmas eve with 20 staff fighting a flood breach, trusted to stay in Marlborough for local earthquake damages on maintenance contract rates when NCTIR rates were on offer just down the road, trusted to be on call 24/7, 365 days a year. The consequences of getting our job wrong is a threat to loss of life and property. We have seen significant and high loss floods in the 80s in Blenheim. Since 1994, Council has committed to lifting the floodways assets to 100-year flood design safety, and Simcox has been MDC’s main partner in getting that done.
