Full team effort provides lasting legacy

Connectus kicked off the epic City Rail Link (CRL) project in December 2015 and is the first CRL contract to be completed, providing the foundations for Auckland’s first underground metro system.

A JV between McConnell Dowell and Downer, Connectus completed Contract 2 for CRL in October 2020, following nearly five years of high-profile construction activity in the Auckland CBD, including one of its busiest intersections, surrounded by multiple high commercial and residential towers and numerous businesses while operating in a narrow 12 m wide construction corridor in Albert St.

Completion of C2 has enabled a revival of the CBD at street level, with seamless tie-in to the tunnels constructed under Commercial Bay. Contract 2 provided leadership in sustainable infrastructure delivery solutions, and shared learning and methodologies identified which have been incorporated into the rest of CRL works.

The success of this project was down to a whole team effort and collaboration between Connectus, CRLL, and partners (including AECOM, Parallax, Contrax, Stockman, Sixence, Gleeson & Cox, Trevi, Complete Reo, Watertight, Exaro and Harker).
