Performing the Bulk Earthworks Contract for Contact Energy at the Tauhara Geothermal Power Station just outside of Taupo, Hick Bros Civil Construction has completed three out of the five separable portions ahead of schedule (with the last two SPs currently tracking on programme).

Shifting approximately 800,000 m3 of dirt in half an earthworks season, Hick Bros constructed the earthworks platform for the power station, a large-scale haul road network, two drilling pad rig sites, well pad and a Transpower switch yard. When completed the project will incorporate the world’s largest geothermal steam turbine to date. The project will also allow the client, Contact Energy, to further reduce its carbon emissions.
