Notification of utilities works for Aotea Station Aotea Station - Utilities investigation and relocation – mid-September to early 2020 City Rail Link (CRL) works for Aotea Station will be starting on 17 September. Before we can construct the station, we need to locate and move utilities such as power and water lines away from the station footprint. To carry out this work, our crews will excavate sections of the road and footpath along Albert Street in the area between Wyndham Street and Wellesley Street and on some surrounding streets. We anticipate this work taking around six months to complete. Work hours are 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. What’s going to happen? The first work in each area will be utility investigations which will take 1-2 weeks each. Utility relocation crews will follow, creating trenches 50m to 60m long at a time. They will backfill trenches and reinstate the footpath as they go. Each trench will take around four to six weeks and will involve work on the road and footpath up to property boundaries. We will always maintain access to properties.

A temporary site compound will be formed in part of the Bledisloe House car park in October. The site will house portacoms to serve as rest areas for crews and equipment storage. Utilities site map for September – December 2019:

How will this affect me? The main impacts of this work will be noise and vibration, visual impacts, changed road layout and changes to foot access. We are working to manage these impacts through the following actions: Noise and vibration
Visual impacts
• A micro piling rig which uses drilling rather than ramming will be used for support piling, creating less noise and vibration • Noise mats around trenches will reduce noise from concrete saws, excavators, and hydroexcavators.
• Mesh fencing will be used around the site for light and sight lines • Water filled barriers and temporary fencing will maintain visibility for businesses • Link Alliance branded mesh scrim will be used as fencing around the compound site.
Traffic changes
Pedestrian access
• One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained along Albert Street • On-site signage will advise of upcoming changes to the road layout • The Link Alliance is working with Auckland Transport to keep public transport and people moving through this part of the city.
• Safe property and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times with temporary diversions in place as construction progresses • Pedestrians may need to be re-routed at times around works but we will use wayfinding signage to help them find and access businesses.
What happens next? When utility works are complete, station construction starts and continues until late 2023. Streetscape enhancements will follow, with the CRL opening in 2024. Utilities 2019
