Mercury Lane closure works and traffic direction changes

Dear neighbours,

We are contacting you to provide an update on our initial Temporary Mercury Lane Closure Stage Two notification, distributed on 8 May 2024. The works will now commence on Friday 31 May 2024.

This stage is expected to take four to five weeks, with work carried out from the northern corner of the Mercury Lane/Cross Street intersection up to the Mercury Lane/Karangahape Road intersection. For the first two weeks, traffic controllers will be in place at the Mercury Lane/Karangahape Road intersection to manage vehicular access for residents and businesses

Following the conclusion of these works Auckland Transport is scheduled to begin work in the same location as part of the Karanga-a-Hape Station precinct integration project (Project K). For information about this project, please click here

Upcoming changes

• The right-hand turn from Karangahape Road onto Upper Queen Street will be permanently reestablished. This work is required before stage two can begin and involves hardware and software changes, as well as line marking works on Karangahape Road. This is scheduled to be carried out this evening (Wednesday 22 May 2024), 9pm-1am. If the works are affected by rain, they will be carried out on the next available evening.

• The traffic flow along Cross Street will revert to its original east-to-west directional flow. To enable this, line marking works will be carried out on the Upper Queen Street northbound lanes and across the intersection with Cross Street the night of Thursday 30 May
