Adults and children had fun playing musical chairs in lower Queen Street last Friday.
Lower Queen Street activated Lower Queen St is now traffic-free and AT is encouraging people to make the most of the space to walk, cycle and relax. At different times for the next five Fridays, there are walking and cycling ‘activations’. Last week people of all ages were playing musical chairs, a maze was marked on the road and a bike polo tournament held. “We will have small to large activations throughout the next year to keep the area lively and support local businesses,” says CRL’s place manager Nazla Carmine. “While this area is only traffic-free temporarily, we want people to enjoy the benefits of the space while they can.”

Soldata system installed Soldata’s instrumentation system to monitor even tiny ground and building movement is underway. All buildings on Albert Street, and most on Victoria Street, now have the system’s laser-guided prisms attached to them. These will reflect laser beams into a grid to detect minute changes in building movement, feeding the data into a monitoring system that allows any issues to be addressed immediately.

CRL at K Road Open Streets The City Rail Link team was part of the K Road Open Streets event on Sunday, 1 May. The road, from Queen Street to Ponsonby Road, was temporarily closed to vehicles and turned into an action-packed pedestrianised space. Record numbers experienced vibrant performances, interactive games, and street markets and discovered what’s in store for the walking, cycling and public transport network. From start to finish, the CRL site was full of activity as countless pedestrians and cyclists stopped by to check out the latest station designs, plans for construction and learn more about the project. Locals were enthusiastic about the CRL coming to K Road. K Road Open Streets was brought to you by Auckland Transport in partnership with the K Road Business Association.
