Minutes Welcome •

Helen Jansen welcomed everyone to the meeting, outlined the agenda for the evening and introduced Link Alliance staff.

Construction update •

Nick Adams, Construction Manager, then provided an update on what’s happening with the construction work and how we are managing with the Covid-19 interruption to the schedule.

Nick then provided an overview of upcoming works and expected time periods.

Fenton/Ngahura overbridge design •

Tim Jones, Urban Designer, discussed the references and inspirations from the Maungawhau and how these are considered and incorporated into the urban realm design

The initial reference design and the final design were then compared and discussed.

•

Geoff Heaton, Traffic Specialist, discussed the road layout and vehicle tracking showing how cars and trucks are expected to use the shared space.

Paul Smith, Architect, introduced the bridge design and discussed how it fits into the locality by referencing aerial perspectives. o

He discussed how the curved shape originated and why.

o

Paul talked about how Environment Court requirements have been applied to the design.

o

He showed a comparison between the original reference designs and current design for both landing areas of the bridge structure.

o

He discussed the negotiables and demonstrated the differences for consideration and feedback at the completion of the evening: 1. Opacity of privacy screen outside the lift entrance 2. Height of the privacy screen outside the lift entrance.

Additional information shared: o

Views along the bridge as reference to height of barriers, privacy considerations, view of surroundings, aesthetic referencing

o

Views of the bridge from North Eden apartments and Station R apartments to demonstrate privacy considerations and for visual reference of what to expect

o

Sun path analysis for 9am, midday and 5pm for both summer and winter to provide evidence of how the bridge is expected to impact light / sun projection

o

Maori narrative and the process of how it was gifted to the project and how it draws on Mataaoho for the initial concept and the references and connections between both the Fenton and the Porters Ave bridges.

o

Information on the artists brief to deepen the narrative and to support the structural elements of the bridge by the inclusion of the decorative elements.

o

Examples of how the elements may be included onto the lift shafts to aid with privacy considerations.

Paul advised that these elements were still in process with the artist, not finalised and would be presented again to this forum once completed.

Helen opened the floor for questions and requested responses to the two negotiable options o

A wide variety of questions were raised from the floor and addressed by the subject matter experts present. Where the answers or the background information was not readily available the meeting was advised that the questions would be researched and responded to in writing. We are currently in the process of formally responding to the questions raised in this meeting, and others that were forwarded in aftter the event.
