ORGANIZATION

The City of Wooster is a charter form of government comprised of the Mayor, three Directors, and the Wooster City Council. The Mayor supervises and controls all of the Administrative Departments, including Law, Finance, and Administration.

The Director of Administration is responsible for all City Services except those headed by the Law Director and the Finance Director.

City Council consists of eight members elected to a fouryear term to oversee the city budget, establish goals, and set policies. The President oversees the meetings with four Ward and three At-Large council members acting as the voting body.

The Building Standards Manager is responsible for the daily management of the Building department under the general supervision of the Director of Administration and Deputy Director of Administration The position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the enforcement of City and State building and related codes and standards. Incumbent holds responsibility to interpret the codes and obtain compliance with their intent.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or closely related field is required. Experience may be substituted for formal education.

A State of Ohio Board of Building Standards certification as a Building Official is required One or more of the following State of Ohio. certifications is preferred: Master Plans Examiner, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Fire Protection Inspector, etc.

A minimum of eight (8) years of related building or construction work experience is required including two (2) years of management.

The selected candidate’s wage will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. The expected hiring range is $78,854 to $113,000 annual salary.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the enforcement of City and State building and related codes and standards.

Responsible for the supervision and oversight of the enforcement of adopted Property Maintenance, Planning and Zoning Code, Residential Building Code of Ohio, Ohio Building Code and other related City ordinances.

Directs, supervises, maintains schedules, trains, evaluates and develops staff of the Building Standards department.
