VALLEJO WEEKLY

Hello Vallejo

ANDREW’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER

As we reach the midpoint of November, it’s hard to believe how quickly the month is moving. It’s a great time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with our community.

This past week, we came together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. I had the privilege of speaking at two Veterans Day events here in Vallejo, and I was truly moved by the experience. It was a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of our local veterans. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help recognize their service and their continued impact on our community.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to celebrate one of Vallejo’s own: C.C. Sabathia, a baseball legend and proud Vallejo native. On Sunday, November 16th, the City will present him with the Key to the City and unveil an honorary street renaming in recognition of his incredible achievements on the field and his generous philanthropic work off of it. The celebration will take place at Corbus Fields, and we invite the entire community to join us for this special event. You’ll find all the details in this week’s Vallejo Weekly.

Our Public Works Department has been making great strides to complete important projects before

the rainy season sets in. The removal of Dock A at the Marina is now complete, and new speed tables have been installed around City Park to help calm traffic and improve pedestrian safety. These upgrades are part of our ongoing efforts to make Vallejo safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone.

Next week, on Tuesday, November 18th, the City Council will consider engaging a consultant to help the City access substantial forthcoming federal investments to retool the country’s military and commercial maritime industry. This would be an exciting step toward strengthening Vallejo’s position as a hub for innovation and industry.

We are grateful that the federal government shutdown has concluded so Vallejoans can continue to receive vital support from federal programs. Also at next Tuesday’s Council meeting, the City Council will consider whether the City can take any steps to offset the lingering deleterious impacts of the shutdown.

Stay dry, stay safe, and stay connected.

With Appreciation

Vallejo Honors Veterans with Community Celebration

On Tuesday, November 11, the Vallejo community gathered both on Mare Island and at the Veterans Memorial behind City Hall, to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served—and continue to serve—in our nation’s armed forces.

Set against the backdrop of a crisp autumn day, the event highlighted Vallejo’s proud military heritage, which dates back to 1854 with the founding of the first Naval base in the Pacific on Mare Island. Veterans from every branch of the military were present, joined by residents, families, and local leaders in a heartfelt show of appreciation.

The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our service members and the enduring spirit of unity in Vallejo.

CalTrans Traffic Alerts

Caltrans has started construction on the Rehabilitation and Complete Street Project on State Route 29 (Sonoma Boulevard).

This work began on Thursday, Oct 16, from the Napa/Solano County line at Mini Drive and span the 6 miles to Cal Poly Maritime Academy. From Oct. 13 to Nov. 21, work is scheduled from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. each night. During this time initial work will begin between Napa/Solano County line at Mini Drive to Missouri Street.

All work depends on the weather. The project is estimated to be completed in the Fall of 2026. This project will consist of the deconstruction of the current medians and curbs. The construction activities may be noisy and create dust at times, as work will be done by jackhammering and other construction equipment.

This project will require a lane closure with one lane open for motorists and traffic control in place. Daytime access is expected to be available for motorists. While construction is occurring, there will be a CHP presence in place. More updates will be provided and the project continues. You can follow the project here: https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-nearme/district-4/d4-projects/d4-sr29-vallejo

New Speed Tables Installed to Improve Safety Around City Park

The City of Vallejo’s Public Works crews have installed two new speed tables on the north and south sides of City Park as part of an ongoing effort to calm traffic and enhance pedestrian safety in the area.

Speed tables are raised sections of roadway designed to slow down vehicles, making the park safer for families, walkers, and cyclists. The installation is part of a phased plan to improve traffic safety around the entire park.

Two additional speed tables are planned for the east and west sides of the park and will be installed as soon as weather conditions allow.

This project reflects the City’s continued commitment to creating safer, more walkable neighborhoods for all residents.

The Neighborhood Watch Program offers our community members a chance to stay informed, build connections, and enhance communication with one another and our police department. It’s about neighbors working together to create a safer community.

If you’re interested in how the Neighborhood Watch Program can improve your area, contact Sgt. Hollis at Rashad.Hollis@cityofvallejo.net for more information.

By taking proactive steps today, we can help create a safer tomorrow for our communities.

VALLEJO HOUSING AUTHORITY

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) has released a publicly available Transparency Progress Report, covering the first year of reform implementation under the Settlement Agreement with the California Department of Justice (DOJ). This report seeks to provide the community with a snapshot of the progress the department is making in its reform efforts and the commitment to future work in the coming years. The progress tracker will be updated regularly or when there are significant developments in substantial compliance being granted. The Transparency Progress Report can be accessed at Vallejopd.net.

City of Vallejo’s Settlement Agreement Evaluator recently released a Year-1 Status Report. The report covered the period from April 8, 2024, to June 30, 2025, and provides a comprehensive assessment of progress, accomplishments, and areas requiring additional focus as Year1 reform works comes to a conclusion. The Evaluator’s Status Report can be accessed at www.Vallejomonitor.com.

Chief Jason Ta reaffirmed the department’s commitment:

“The Vallejo Police Department continues to recognize the importance of this reform work. We are dedicated to meeting the requirements of the Settlement Agreement and enhancing accountability and trust within our community. While challenges remain, this first year reflects progress and our commitment to seeing the reforms through to completion.”

Dock A Removal Completed Ahead of Schedule

Crews have successfully completed the removal of Dock A at the Vallejo Marina, wrapping up the project in just three weeks—less than half the originally estimated seven-week timeline.

Unused since 2007, Dock A had significantly deteriorated and was beyond repair. Its careful dismantling marks a key step in improving the safety and appearance of the marina area.

A big thank you to the City of Vallejo’s Public Works team for their efficient oversight and hard work in completing this project ahead of schedule!

of the project on October 21st
