VALLEJO WEEKLY

ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Hello Vallejo,
Summer is now behind us, and fall is officially in the air. We may still catch a few warm days, so now’s the perfect time to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the changing season.
Today is National Daughter’s Day. Celebrate the daughters, sisters, mothers, and all the incredible women who inspire us every day.
The weekends are still busy in Vallejo. Friday, the Maker Faire returns to Mare Island, bringing together inventors, artists, and innovators from around the globe. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience filled with hands-on exhibits, mind-blowing creations, and fun for all ages. Don’t miss it!
Join us at the Farmer’s Market this Saturday, too! City of Vallejo staff will be out and about, connecting with residents and hearing what’s on your mind. It’s the first market of fall, so come say hello and grab some fresh produce.
Next week, October kicks off with Solano County’s Day of Giving — a chance to give back through time,
donations, or simply spreading kindness. Learn how you can get involved at livesolanogivesolano.org.
We are expanding the hours that City Hall is open to better serve the community. Starting Monday, October 6, the new hours will be Monday–Thursday and every other Friday 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
I have some positive public safety updates to share. To start, the Solano County Board of Supervisors has approved temporary law enforcement support from the Sheriff’s Department to assist Vallejo PD. This partnership will help strengthen safety efforts across the city. In addition, the City Council has approved new security cameras to be deployed in key areas. These will support our officers and enhance public safety. We’ll share more details about both items as soon as the rollout plans are finalized.
With appreciation,
Andrew Murray Vallejo City Manager

City of Vallejo Honors Hispanic Heritage Month
At its September 23, 2025 meeting, the Vallejo City Council proudly issued a proclamation recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15. This month is a time to honor the vibrant cultures, rich histories, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latin American communities. In Vallejo, more than 37,000 residents—nearly 30% of our population—identify as Hispanic or Latin American. Their achievements, traditions, and daily contributions continue to shape and strengthen the fabric of our city. We celebrate their stories, their resilience, and the vital role they play in making Vallejo a more inclusive and dynamic place to live.

DESCRIPTION

PROJECT SCOPE

Learn about MEHKOs!

The Center for Urban Excellence (CUE) plays a vital role in the Vallejo Resilience Network by actively working to reduce marijuana use among youth and young adults through targeted health education workshops with network partners and other communitybased organizations. Our primary objectives around prevention and harm reduction include: (1) identifying risk factors associated with marijuana use; (2) increasing awareness of the potential health risks linked to marijuana consumption; (3) promoting healthy decision-making; and (4) fostering a supportive environment for youth and young adults through direct service referrals. By leveraging community-driven initiatives and educational programs, CUE aims to empower residents with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed choices, thereby contributing to a healthier, more resilient Vallejo community.
One notable example of the success of these workshops is the increased awareness and engagement observed among participating youth and young adults. Several participants reported feeling more confident in their knowledge of risk and protective factors and their ability to make healthy choices to cope with stress and trauma.
To schedule a workshop, email dionne@ centerforurbanexcellence.org.
