ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Hello Vallejo,
The weather is cooling down a bit but events are still heating up as we head into the Fall season. The ConFunkShun Day Celebration last Saturday was a big hit! Please enjoy the pictures in this edition of the Vallejo Weekly where you’ll see the iconic R&B funk group receive the Keys to the City and Proclamations from dignitaries, along with the unveiling of the honorary street signs that now span across Florida Street between Mare Island Way and Solano Avenue.
Speaking of streets, you’ll find information in this Weekly on the 2025 Road Repair Project which has begun and should bring improvements to the streets in Vallejo, thanks to Measure P. Also, Caltrans is kicking off the SR-29/Sonoma Boulevard “Pavement Rehabilitation and Complete Streets” project with a groundbreaking ceremony this week. This Caltrans project will include enhanced crosswalks, new marked bike lanes and new street lighting.
At the City Council meeting last Tuesday, Council provided direction on public safety priorities
based on staff reports to address issues such as sex trafficking, red light abatement and other public safety issues. The City Council also discussed their preferred designs for the Blue Rock Springs Golf Facilities Clubhouse and West Course.
The Vallejo Police Department will hold a Community Townhall meeting Thursday evening, 9/11 6-8 pm at Jesse Bethel High School, on an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 29, 2025. This is an active investigation and VPD is hosting the meeting to provide maximum transparency and inform the public about the incident.
On September 23rd, the Solano County Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on the Sheriff’s contract to assist the Vallejo Police Department on calls. We are hoping to have some positive development on that soon.
With appreciation, Andrew Murray Vallejo City Manager

Vallejo Brings the “Ffun” to the Waterfront for ConFunkShun Day!
It was a picture-perfect day in Vallejo, and the air was alive with rhythm and soul as the community gathered to celebrate ConFunkShun Day along the scenic waterfront. With the band’s greatest hits setting the tone, nearly 150 attendees came together to honor Vallejo’s own legendary R&B funk group.
The celebration hit a high note when the Vallejo High School band performed a crowd favorite— “Ffun”—paying tribute to the group that got its start right here in our city. The energy was electric as the music echoed across the water, bringing smiles, dancing, and a whole lot of hometown pride.
Mayor Andrea Sorce, Assemblywoman Lori Wilson, and other dignitaries took the stage to read proclamations and reflect on the incredible journey of the band that began as Project Soul more than 50 years ago. That group would go on to become the iconic ConFunkShun, a name now etched into the soul of Vallejo’s musical history.
The event was emceed by none other than Clarence Isadore, retired principal and self-proclaimed “Conductor of Funk,” who kept the celebration flowing with style and flair. Speakers including Councilwoman Helen-Marie Gordon, County Supervisor Cassandra James, retired educator Jo Jones, and Deborah Dickson, VP of the Solano County Fair Board, all shared heartfelt words about the band’s enduring impact on the community.
And now, Vallejo has made that legacy more noticeable.
As you drive down Florida Street, from Mare Island Way to Solano Avenue, keep an eye out for the twenty new “ConFunkShun St. – Honorary” signs. This stretch of road holds special meaning— Michael Cooper, ConFunkShun’s founder, grew up on Florida Street, often fishing along the waterfront and dreaming up the sounds that would one day move the world.
From the streets of Vallejo to stages around the globe, ConFunkShun’s story is one of talent, perseverance, and deep community roots. And on this unforgettable day, Vallejo showed just how proud it is to be the hometown of funk.

City of Vallejo Road Repair Project is Underway!
“Your Measure P Tax Dollars at Work”
Big improvements are coming to Vallejo streets, and it’s all thanks to your support of Measure P! The City of Vallejo has kicked off its 2025 Road Repair Project to make our streets smoother, safer, and longer-lasting. We’re using a smart, cost-effective method called Cape Seal to refresh and protect our roads for years to come.
In addition to this Cape Seal project, several other road repair projects are picking up speed. The first of these, featuring both ADA-compliant ramp installations and asphalt rehabilitation, officially went out to bid on September 3 and will close on September 25. The Public Works team anticipates breaking ground on the concrete work by late November, with asphalt paving scheduled to begin in early 2026.
The second major road rehabilitation project is currently in the design and costing phase. Once finalized, the team will present the plan to the Measure P Committee to secure construction funding and move the project forward.
We will share more on these projects as the details become available.
Learn more about this project, the list of roads being worked on and what Cape Seal process is at: https://www.myvallejo.com/public-works-projects/news_feed/2025-cape-seal-project

Transforming Vallejo, One Step at a Time
August was a powerful month for our Prop 64 project, with partners and community members working together to make lasting change across Vallejo. From youth development workshops to targeted prevention efforts, the initiative continues to build safer, healthier spaces where young people can thrive.
One of the most visible impacts came through Healthy Vallejo’s monthly community clean-ups. With a target of 4–6 clean-ups each month, the August events not only met but exceeded expectations. Before-and-after photos tell the story: neglected areas transformed into welcoming community spaces. These clean-ups do more than beautify—they reduce crime, deter drug activity, and signal to youth that their neighborhoods are cared for. Each project strengthens community pride while reducing environmental stressors that often contribute to risky behaviors. In addition to the clean-ups, partners advanced other key goals in August:
• Mentorship and Training: Ongoing mentoring sessions and work-readiness training supported youth in building confidence, job skills, and leadership.
• Community Engagement: Planning began for fall prevention workshops, designed to engage families and raise awareness about youth substance use prevention. Together, these efforts demonstrate the power of coordinated action under Prop 64.
Each clean-up, training, and workshop brings us closer to our shared vision: a Vallejo where every young person has the opportunity to grow, contribute, and succeed in a safe, supportive environment.
