Vallejo Weekly

Hello Vallejo,

ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

I am delivering the Vallejo Weekly Message this week since City Manager Murray is currently at a work conference.

Hope families are enjoying the last few days of summer break before VCUSD students head back to school on Monday. Please be cautious of increased traffic and pedestrians and bicyclists in your neighborhood.

Last Tuesday, City Council held a special meeting and approved the use of opioid funds and other funding items to support the Broadway Project. Thanks to the special meeting called by the City Council, tenants are one step closer to moving in by the end of August. This much-anticipated site will provide 47 permanent supportive housing units. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for October to celebrate with the tenants who have moved into the Broadway Project. The City is also pleased with the progress made in the past few weeks on the recent rodent infestation. Public Works says the City’s pest control contractor has reported a noticeable decrease in rodent activity. Public Works will

A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER

continue to provide intensified efforts and street sweeping through the end of the month and continue monitoring to ensure their effectiveness. Residents and business owners are encouraged to share their feedback, ask questions, or report any concerns by reaching out to Assistant City Manager Nalungo Conley at nalungo.conley@cityofvallejo.net.

This past week at the Solano County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, the Board heard public comment from City Staff on the Sheriff’s contract to assist the Vallejo Police Department with law enforcement which would start in January 2026. The City is closely watching the developments on this contract and remain hopeful the County Board of Supervisors will soon approve the contract with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. The Board has continued the item until August 26. We will keep you updated on any developments and the impact on public safety.

Much respect, Gillian Haen

Acting City Manager

Why Power Matters For Your Drinking Water

In Vallejo, we all expect safe, clean water to come out of the tap. After all, water is essential to our daily lives. Behind the scenes, it takes a surprising amount of electricity to keep that water moving. Water Doesn’t Move Itself.

Vallejo’s landscape is full of hills, winding streets, and the tidal Napa River. That geography makes our city beautiful, but it also makes delivering water a little more complex. Water needs to be pumped up hills and across long distances to reach homes, schools, and businesses. Without electricity, those pumps don’t run.

Even beyond pumps, power is required to operate:

• Treatment plants, where raw water is cleaned and disinfected,

• Control systems, which monitor water quality and tank levels,

• Valves and infrastructure, to direct water where it’s needed most.

What Happens During a Power Outage?

If PG&E calls a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) or an emergency cuts off electricity to parts of Vallejo, the water system may be affected. Some neighborhoods – especially those located on hills – may experience low pressure or temporary interruptions to water service.

That’s because without electricity, we can’t refill local tanks, pump water uphill, or run key equipment. And while our reservoirs and tanks store water, they only hold enough for a limited time without needing to be replenished.

The Good News: The Water Department Has Planned for This.

Vallejo Water maintains a fleet of mobile generators that can be deployed during emergencies to keep our most critical infrastructure online and operational. Our on-call teams are trained to respond quickly and strategically: we bring power where it’s needed most to maintain water service.

Still, every situation is different. Extended outages, especially those that affect multiple sites, can pose real challenges.

We’re in This Together!

We know that water is not optional. Every person in Vallejo depends on it for drinking, cooking, hygiene, firefighting, and more. That’s why we work hard, behind the scenes, to keep your water service as reliable as possible – even when the power goes out.

You can help, too!

• Ensure that you have an emergency water supply stored at home (at least one gallon, per person, per day for several days).

• Sign up for PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff alerts and stay tuned to local emergency updates.

• During a power shutoff, reduced water pressure can sometimes occur. If it happens, it’s likely related to the outage, and our crews will be working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

Together, we’ll keep Vallejo’s water flowing!

Want to know more about Your Water Quality?

The Vallejo Water Department has updated its water quality webpage to help answer your questions about taste, appearance, and troubleshooting your own water at home.

Visit the Water Quality Division’s webpage for FAQs, helpful tips, and the latest reports about your water quality.

Disc Golf Takes Off In Vallejo

Over the past few decades, Vallejo has seen the closure of several beloved golf courses, including Lake Chabot, Fairgrounds, and Mare Island. Today, only Blue Rock Springs and Hiddenbrooke remain. However, a new type of golf course is taking flight in Vallejo, and it’s quickly gaining a dedicated following: Disc Golf! While it hasn’t yet reached the popularity of Pickleball, Disc Golf is rapidly attracting enthusiasts. Thanks to a collaborative effort between the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (G.V.R.D), various local building trade unions (- Napa-Solano Central Labor Council, Napa Solano Building Trades Council, Cement Masons Local #400, Ironworker Local #378, IBEW Local #1245, SEIU Local #1021, Nor Cal Carpenters Union, Painters Local #376, and Sheet Metal Workers Local 104) and passionate community members, Hanns Park now boasts one of the most popular disc golf courses in the area.

The course, which opened last summer, has recently been expanded with six new pads and three drop zones. Additional landscaping is underway to enhance its aesthetic appeal, but the course is already open and buzzing with daily activity.

If you’re curious about Disc Golf, Hanns Park is the perfect place to start. Local players are out on the course every day, eager to share their love for the sport and help newcomers get started. When we visited for a few photos, we were warmly welcomed by players who shared their passion and offered helpful tips. Ready to join the fun? Learn more about the course at https://udisc.com/courses/hanns-park-rurt You can also connect with local players through the Benicia-Vallejo disc golf group, the Beñejos, on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1115466498990820
