Hello Vallejo,
ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Looks like we’ll have nice warm weather to close out the last couple weeks of summer before children in Vallejo head back to school. Hope you’ll enjoy the time with family at the August activities we’ve included in this Vallejo Weekly. At the City Council meeting last Tuesday, Council approved some exciting items such as the Honorary Street Sign Designations for CC Sabathia and R&B and funk group Con Funk Shun. Soon, you’ll see honorary street names along Gateway Drive for CC Sabathia and Florida Street for Con Funk Shun. Both groups will also hold special ceremonial events in the community next month. The City will provide more details on the events in the near future. Stay tuned.
City Council was scheduled to be in recess until next month but there will now be a special meeting on Tuesday, August 12th to approve the use of opioid funds for the Broadway Project and approve some other Broadway Projectrelated agreements. City staff appreciates Council’s decision to hold the special meeting in hopes to have new tenants move into the
Broadway Project by the end of August.
Public Works continues to work with our pest control contractor to mitigate the rodent population in areas along the waterfront and downtown. We appreciate the community’s collaboration in addressing this issue.
With school resuming soon, you’ll want to check out the details in this Weekly on backpack giveaways going on in Vallejo if your children are in need of fresh supplies. Also, National Night Out, which has previously taken place this first week of August, has switched to October 7 for Vallejo. Please see the flyer in this Weekly for more information. There are many ways to connect and stay involved with the City through National Night Out, Neighborhood Watch, and Vallejo Business Watch as seen in this Weekly. We encourage you to participate in these activities.
With appreciation,
Andrew Murray Vallejo City Manager

A Journey Through Vallejo’s Transformation
The California Planning Roundtable’s summer meeting was held in Vallejo on August 1st and 2nd, was a vibrant blend of history, innovation, and community dialogue.
Day 1: Exploring Mare Island’s Renaissance
The event kicked off with an immersive walking tour of historic Mare Island, setting the stage for a dynamic panel discussion titled “Forging Ahead: Modern Pioneers of Mare Island’s Economy” at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Attendees had the unique opportunity to hear from local visionaries who are transforming this former military base into a thriving hub for craft brewing, advanced manufacturing, higher education, and economic revitalization.
The panel featured:
• Newman J. Hoffman, CEO of Touro University California
• Rob Howard, Kindred Motorworks
• Brian Nagy, The Mare Island Company
• Kent Fornter, Mare Island Brewing Company
• Erin Hanford Magagna, City of Vallejo, California
Their stories of innovation and resilience painted a promising picture of Mare Island’s future.
Day 2: Bridging the Divide in Vallejo Government
On Saturday, August 2nd, the focus shifted to a crucial conversation on “Bridging the Divide: Rebuilding Trust in Vallejo Government.” Vallejo Mayor Andrea Sorce, Assistant City Manager Nalungo Mwanga-Conley, and Planning and Development Services Director Kristin Pollot, AICP, led a thought-provoking discussion on the challenges and strategies for restoring trust between the government and the community.

The dialogue was enriched by the active participation of both in-person and virtual members of the Roundtable. They explored how trust was broken, the ripple effects of mistrust on city services, and the broader implications for the social contract between citizens and their government. Roundtable members shared their unique perspectives, challenging the panel to consider the pivotal role of communication and the importance of authentic engagement with all community members. The conversation underscored that rebuilding trust requires collective effort and often hinges on small, consistent actions that foster a sense of togetherness and mutual respect.

Solano County Transit (SolTrans) is excited to announce the completion of the Sereno Transit Center Beautification Project, a transformative initiative funded through the Clean California Grant in partnership with Caltrans. Funded through the Clean California Grant awarded in October 2023, the project was part of a statewide $1.2 billion effort led by Caltrans to clean and enhance public spaces, create jobs, and engage local communities. The Sereno Beautification Project has revitalized the transit center through a series of impactful upgrades:
• Custom murals by local artist Melissa Penny (Malis Bee) and her team “The Hive”, featuring SolTrans buses, riders, and nature-themed artwork
• New landscaping to enhance the natural environment
• Solar-powered lighting in four shelters to promote sustainability
• Eleven pathway lights and four inground lights to improve safety and visibility
• A new shade structure to provide comfort and protection from the elements for waiting passengers “The completion of this project is a reflection of our commitment to improving transit spaces for the community,” said Beth Kranda, Executive Director of SolTrans. “It’s more than just beautification—it’s about creating a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment that serves as a point of pride for our community.” SolTrans extends its deepest gratitude to Caltrans for their generous support and collaboration throughout the project. PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Caltrans will perform roadway pavement rehabilitation on approximately six miles in both northbound and southbound travel directions of State Route 29 (SR-29)/Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo to enhance the safety. Caltrans will also add new ADA accessible sidewalks, curb bulb outs, enhanced crosswalks, landscaping in various medians, marked bike lanes, and street lighting. The project will take place from Maritime Academy Dr in South Vallejo to Mini Drive in North Vallejo.
PROJECT SCHEDULE:
Construction is tentatively scheduled to start as early as mid-late July 2025 and be completed sometime in Spring 2026. All work is weather dependent.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Caltrans does not plan to completely close the route during the work. One lane in each direction on SR-29/Sonoma Boulevard will always remain open.
However, during construction, the public should expect various lane reductions, daytime construction noise and dust, various alternating temporary sidewalk closures, various temporary alternating driveway closures.

Caltrans will provide more detailed times and dates regarding construction activities as soon as information becomes available.

Big News! National Night Out Date Has Changed for Solano County
Solano County’s National Night Out is moving to Tuesday, October 7th for a cooler, more comfortable evening with fewer vacation conflicts.
Past August events were often hindered by heat and summer travel, so the Solano County Law Enforcement Administrators Association (SCLEAA) is making the shift to boost attendance and community connection. While some Northern California counties stick to August, many nationwide have already made this change for the same reasons.
Join us in Vallejo to celebrate our police, first responders, and each other. Let’s make this night unforgettable— building relationships, honoring service, and creating lasting memories together.
The City of Vallejo registration form for National Night Out 2025 is: https://cityofvallejo.formstack.com/forms/vallejo_national_night_out_event_registration
See you on October 7th!

Alara
Abyssinian-DSH mix, ginger tabby, F, 1 yo, 7 lbs, $150 fee
She prefers a calm, quiet home to feel safe while getting to know you. She’s okay with people and may do well with another respectful cat, but she’d rather skip the chaos of kittens and busy households. If she’s feeling unhappy, she’ll let you know and speak her mind!

Bubba
Am Pit bull Terrier mix, brindle tri-color, M, 3 yo, 87 lbs, $200 fee
Strong, independent, and quiet. Very trainable and working on heeling. Composed and calm, but the sight of a play yard transforms him into a puppy. He adores toys and can play for hours. Adaptable and friendly, he is a social butterfly with people and other dogs with ease.
