ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER

Hello Vallejo!

I am filling in for City Manager Murray while he is on vacation. I’d like to thank the community, City Council and staff for turning out to show their support at the Crestside clean-up last weekend. You’ll find photos of the clean-up in this edition of the Weekly.

We are also proud of the 2025 Citizens Academy graduates! They attended invigorating sessions since last March meeting Staff and learning about City government. Please enjoy the photos from this last season in the Weekly and be sure to sign-up early next year when we launch the 2026 Citizens Academy.

The City and Vallejo Police Department also released a Request for Qualifications this past week, seeking Community Based Organizations to help implement community

violence intervention strategies and programs. We have heard loud and clear the community wants to help improve public safety and this is a key addition to help build those connections.

I also wanted to address the recent post made on City’s social media regarding rodents and pest control in the City. The City is assessing the situation and will respond accordingly so please know we are aware of the situation and taking steps to address it.

Be sure to enjoy the outdoors with this cooler summer weather and stop by the City’s table at the Farmer’s Market this weekend.

Respectfully,

Big News! National Night Out Date Has Changed for Solano County

Solano County’s National Night Out is moving to Tuesday, October 7th for a cooler, more comfortable evening with fewer vacation conflicts.

Past August events were often hindered by heat and summer travel, so the Solano County Law Enforcement Administrators Association (SCLEAA) is making the shift to boost attendance and community connection. While some Northern California counties stick to August, many nationwide have already made this change for the same reasons.

Join us in Vallejo to celebrate our police, first responders, and each other. Let’s make this night unforgettable— building relationships, honoring service, and creating lasting memories together.

The City of Vallejo registration form for National Night Out 2025 is: https://cityofvallejo.formstack.com/forms/vallejo_national_night_out_event_registration

See you on October 7th!

A distinguished figure in both the legal realm and municipal governance, serving as Mayor of Vallejo and advancing principles of justice and civic responsibility.

The Crest Picks Up

Many community members turned out last week to help clean up the streets of the North Vallejo Neighborhood of Country Club Crest, including County Supervisor Cassandra James, Mayor Andrea Sorce, Council members Diosdado “JR” Matulac, Tonia Lediju, Alexander Matias, New Assistant City Manager Nalungo Conley, along with team members from Vallejo Fire and Police Department and many others.

Preserve Vallejo’s Legacy: Your Invitation to Reimagine the Historic Herbert House

Calling all champions of heritage and revitalization—the City of Vallejo is excited to launch a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the sale or long-term lease of the iconic Herbert House, located at 1 Kentucky Street, Vallejo, CA.

This landmark, nestled in the St. Vincent’s Historic District, is a charming two-story, Queen Anne - shingle style structure with approximately 2,400 sq ft of character waiting to be restored. While it currently requires repairs and upgrades, the real beauty lies in its potential to be transformed— either at its current riverside location next to the picturesque Mare Island Strait or relocated to a site of your choosing.

What’s on the Table:

 Option 1: Lease the entire property for up to 15 years, revitalizing it in place.

 Option 2: Purchase the building and relocate it to a new site for restoration and reuse.

With three parcels totaling 17,258 sq ft, there’s ample opportunity to dream big. The City invites proposals that celebrate history, support community spirit, and breathe new life into this storied structure.

Key Dates:

 Mandatory Site Visit: August 6, 2025, at 11 AM

 Proposal Deadline: September 3, 2025

Proposals will be reviewed on creativity, experience, financial capacity, and vision. To access full RFP documents and submit questions, visit the City’s procurement portal: https://vendors. planetbids.com/portal/42510/bo/bo-detail/131655

Whether you›re a preservationist with a passion for architectural history, or a developer with an eye for innovation, this is your chance to honor Vallejo’s past while shaping its future. Let’s write the next chapter of Herbert House—together.

Know a local centenarian? Supervisors want to honor them

The Solano County Board of Supervisors needs the community’s help in identifying centenarians living in our community for recognition at a Board of Supervisors meeting later this fall as part of the 19th annual centenarian commemoration celebration.

For the past 18 years, the Solano County Board of Supervisors has celebrated the lives of local centenarians by hosting a special recognition ceremony during a Board meeting. This annual commemoration not only honors some of the county’s oldest residents but also highlights their life stories and draws attention to the unique challenges facing the senior community.

The life stories of our centenarians are documented in a hard cover yearbook as well as a video that features interviews with those that can participate. We present the video to the public at a Board of Supervisors meeting each year and a copy of the book is given to each centenarian and/or their family as a lasting tribute to their life and contributions to the community. This program, while rewarding for the Board of Supervisors, is really an important part of preserving our County’s rich history. These stories become part of the permanent record, not just for future generations of the centenarians’ families to hold, but for all of us.

To date the Board has honored more than 275 centenarians in Solano County. Two centenarians reached super-centenarian status, including Marie West in 2011 and Reta Wills in 2021. Super-centenarians are those individuals who have reached 110 years or older, which only occurs at a rate of about 1 in 7 million people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 2024 population estimates, approximately 101,000 Americans are aged 100 or older at any given time in the United States, with California having the most at nearly 9,000 residents. Centenarians, according to the Pew Research Center, are predominately women (78 percent), have a family history of long-lived parents, enjoy regular physical activity, have a balanced diet, and maintain close relationships with family and friends.

HOW TO CONTACT THE COUNTY ABOUT CENTENARIANS

If you know of a centenarian, or, someone who is currently 99 years old and will be turning 100 by year’s end. Please email Centenarian@SolanoCounty.gov and/or call (707) 784-3004 by or before August 1, 2025. Please relay the following information over the phone or in an email to the Supervisor, including (1) the person’s name, (2) their address, (3) their phone number, (4) and their best contact email address.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Caltrans will perform roadway pavement rehabilitation on approximately six miles in both northbound and southbound travel directions of State Route 29 (SR-29)/Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo to enhance the safety. Caltrans will also add new ADA accessible sidewalks, curb bulb outs, enhanced crosswalks, landscaping in various medians, marked bike lanes, and street lighting. The project will take place from Maritime Academy Dr in South Vallejo to Mini Drive in North Vallejo.

PROJECT SCHEDULE:

Construction is tentatively scheduled to start as early as mid-late July 2025 and be completed sometime in Spring 2026. All work is weather dependent.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Caltrans does not plan to completely close the route during the work. One lane in each direction on SR-29/Sonoma Boulevard will always remain open.

However, during construction, the public should expect various lane reductions, daytime construction noise and dust, various alternating temporary sidewalk closures, various temporary alternating driveway closures.

Caltrans will provide more detailed times and dates regarding construction activities as soon as information becomes available.

Caltrans appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we work to improve and maintain our state’s highways, bridges and tunnels.
