Hello Vallejo!
ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
I’d like to thank those who attended the Memorial Day events in Vallejo last Monday. You’ll find nice photos from the ceremonies at Mare Island Naval Cemetery and City Hall in this edition of the Vallejo Weekly.
This coming Monday, June 2nd, at City Hall, we will have flag raisings for the Pride flag at 10 am and Juneteenth flag at 1 pm. You may have seen in the last City Council meeting the proclamations for LGBTQ+ Pride Month and Philippine Cultural Month for June. Please enjoy all the cultural celebrations coming up, including Pista Sa Nayon on June 7th!
We are going to extend the hours that City Hall is open to the public. Be sure to share your thoughts by completing the City Hall Extended Hours Survey, which you can find in this Vallejo Weekly. We will take your feedback to set new City Hall hours that work best for the community!
At the last City Council meeting, there was much discussion about the Mare Island Preserve. The City Council considered whether to request that the Preserve be
added to the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The Council ultimately decided not to request that, and rather to explore other options for the future operation and maintenance of the Preserve.
Next week, on June 5th, there will be a community meeting on the Mare Island Specific Plan and an Open House for the Fairgrounds Drive/Diverging Diamond project. Please stay engaged with these topics and check out the flyer’s in this Vallejo Weekly for details on the events.
Also, please note that the Public Hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2025/2026 Budget will take place at the regular City Council meeting on June 10th, not June 3rd, as previously planned.
Looking forward to seeing you out and about during this nice weather.
With appreciation,
Andrew Murray Vallejo City Manager

Know a local centenarian? Supervisors want to honor them
The Solano County Board of Supervisors needs the community’s help in identifying centenarians living in our community for recognition at a Board of Supervisors meeting later this fall as part of the 19th annual centenarian commemoration celebration.
For the past 18 years, the Solano County Board of Supervisors has celebrated the lives of local centenarians by hosting a special recognition ceremony during a Board meeting. This annual commemoration not only honors some of the county’s oldest residents but also highlights their life stories and draws attention to the unique challenges facing the senior community.
The life stories of our centenarians are documented in a hard cover yearbook as well as a video that features interviews with those that can participate. We present the video to the public at a Board of Supervisors meeting each year and a copy of the book is given to each centenarian and/or their family as a lasting tribute to their life and contributions to the community. This program, while rewarding for the Board of Supervisors, is really an important part of preserving our County’s rich history. These stories become part of the permanent record, not just for future generations of the centenarians’ families to hold, but for all of us.
To date the Board has honored more than 275 centenarians in Solano County. Two centenarians reached super-centenarian status, including Marie West in 2011 and Reta Wills in 2021. Super-centenarians are those individuals who have reached 110 years or older, which only occurs at a rate of about 1 in 7 million people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 2024 population estimates, approximately 101,000 Americans are aged 100 or older at any given time in the United States, with California having the most at nearly 9,000 residents. Centenarians, according to the Pew Research Center, are predominately women (78 percent), have a family history of long-lived parents, enjoy regular physical activity, have a balanced diet, and maintain close relationships with family and friends.
HOW TO CONTACT THE COUNTY ABOUT CENTENARIANS
If you know of a centenarian, or, someone who is currently 99 years old and will be turning 100 by year’s end. Please email Centenarian@SolanoCounty.gov and/or call (707) 784-3004 by or before August 1, 2025. Please relay the following information over the phone or in an email to the Supervisor, including (1) the person’s name, (2) their address, (3) their phone number, (4) and their best contact email address.

Remembrance
This past Memorial Day, Vallejo came together in a solemn tribute to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. While we are always grateful for those who serve and have served, Monday was a day of reflection—a moment to remember and express deep gratitude for those who gave everything so we could live free. Their courage and commitment will never be forgotten.

City of Vallejo Water Department Documents HighQuality Drinking Water in Annual Report
Fun fact: Every drinking water utility in the State of California and in the U.S. is required by law to publish an annual water quality report. The Vallejo Water Department has released its findings from the 2024 water quality report, which is required each year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California State Water Board. New this year, Vallejo’s annual report layout exceeds the State’s minimum standards and is easier to read – with a larger page size, photos, bright colors, and a user-friendly table of contents, making it easier than ever to find information that you are looking for.
The results for Vallejo’s water quality in 2024 are…
(Drumroll please…)
Excellent!
Vallejo’s water meets and even surpasses state and federal requirements.
The Vallejo Water Department tested water samples for 17 inorganic compounds –chemicals like arsenic, mercury, and nickel. Most of these weren’t detected at all. Only 4 of the 17 were detected in trace amounts: aluminum, fluoride, hexavalent chromium, and nitrate. The nearly undetectable concentrations of each of these inorganic compounds fell well under the maximum levels allowed by the California Water Board and the United States EPA and are considered no threat to human health at these trace levels. These inorganics occur in the source
waters (Lake Berryessa and the Bay Delta) as a result of both erosion of natural deposits and human activity like factory discharges and fertilizers. However, most inorganics are entirely removed in the water treatment process. As is typical for any water system in compliance, no E. coli was detected in any of the Water Department’s samples.
Disinfection byproducts –the chemicals produced from the process of removing bacteria from the water –also routinely tested for by the Vallejo Water Department – all fell under the maximum limits allowed by state and federal requirements.
Some water customers in Vallejo may recall the Water Department’s call for volunteers in 2024 to test residential tap water for lead and copper. Of the dozens of homes throughout

Vallejo where the owner or occupant supplied samples of their tap water, not a single instance of lead was detected in the tap water. Trace amounts of copper were found in some samples but were all within safe levels and in compliance with state and federal regulations. The City of Vallejo’s Lead and Copper Study happens every three years and will occur next in 2027. (Vallejo customers should be advised that the current lead and copper study is complete; anyone going door-to-door to test homes’ tap water is not affiliated with the City of Vallejo, and customers are advised not to let these salespeople inside their homes.)
The Vallejo Water Department tested for 29 different PFAS – also known as polyfluoroalkyl substances, occasionally known as “forever chemicals,” as well as lithium and detected none.
“I am thrilled to share with our customers the good news that the water they drink from
their taps here in Vallejo is even higher quality than the levels we are legally required to produce,” said Beth Schoenberger, Vallejo Water Director. That achievement is brought to you by the dedicated work of less than 100 Water Department employees working as a team across many technical disciplines, 24/7/365 to ensure high quality water is there for you when you need it. It’s also supported by staff at City Hall who make sure our bills get paid, our technology functions, and our vacant positions get filled. I’m proud of the Water Quality staff for the upgrade of the layout of the Water Quality Report – making it more approachable and easier to understand for those who matter most: those of you who drink the water!”
