Recreation and leisure activities are an important aspect of life for all people. We will make reasonable accommodations to many of our recreation programs so individuals with disabilities can participate without fundamentally changing the program. Park shelters in the city can be reserved two different ways. The first way is to go to our website and go through the online reservation process. This process will allow individuals to search for open dates and seek amenities that they need for their gathering. The other way is to fill out a Park Shelter reservation forms. These forms can be found at our website or at the Recreation Department office.

Lowell Park Community Garden

This will be our second year of having a community garden at Lowell Park. Gardening is a great family recreation activity and promotes a healthy lifestyle. The plots at our community garden are 15 feet by 20 feet and they are $30 apiece. Garden rules and applications are available on our website, www.cityofstoughton. com/rec, under park links. Please call or stop by our office for more information.

Spring Miniball Soccer*

Start your little Pelé on his or her way to a lifelong love of recreation activities. Nothing compares to soccer for an introduction to structured team sports. The emphasis on this program is having fun and getting your child to like sports. This program isn’t intended on teaching high level skills to your child because of the ages of the participants. Please take note that this program will be switching to Sunday afternoons this spring.

This is a new program this spring that we will be offering for boys and girls in 1st to 6th grades and all skill levels. Men’s Slow Pitch Softball We have four men’s softball leagues which is one of the largest in the area. Four leagues play Tuesday through Friday, from May to August.

What is pickleball? Pickleball is a combination of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. The court is about half the size of tennis court so the need to run is cut down especially when you play doubles.

The ball looks like a baseball sized whiffleball and the paddle looks like an oversized ping pong paddle. There is a regulation pickleball court painted at the Bjoin Park tennis courts. We have a portable net and equipment that can be checked out for free.

We will be having a free umpiring clinic on Wednesday, April 20 at the Hall of Fame room in City Hall and Wednesday, April 27 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Racetrack Park. Recreation Department staff along with veteran umpires will be teaching the fundamentals of umpiring. This is a great way to get your foot in the door if you would like to umpire softball for us this summer. Please RSVP with the Recreation Department by April 13 if you plan on attending.

Accommodations can be made for families with multiple golfers so that their lessons will be at the same time.

Junior Golf - Intermediate Playing League Instruction will be provided on course etiquette, rules, pace of play and technique. Designed for children in grades 4 - 8 and who have experience playing on the golf course. Play will consist of 3 - 9 holes each day in a variety of formats. Parents are encouraged to sign their child up for the Beginner Series if they feel he/she will not be able to play nine holes on the course. Our Zumba classes are taught by certified instructor Heidi Schenkenberg. Heidi is constantly changing up the routine to make the class fun and fresh. Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away.

Regular Zumba This class is for people who have been in a Zumba class before or who prefer a more rigorous workout. Beginners are welcome to attend this class. Canoe Rental

Enjoy the Yahara River like never before!

Paddle north into the big bay, following the river as it winds its way beautifully to Lake Kegonsa.

You may want to go south through the downtown, possibly portaging at the mill dam, for an extended journey. There are four canoes, paddles and life jackets available. The Stoughton Area Senior Center will once again be the rental location.

Fireworks in the Park

Featuring Second Swing Around Come to Veteran’s Park for Fourth of July fireworks and the big band sounds of Second Swing Around. This 9-piece band, featuring several Stoughton players, will get you “In the Mood” for the annual fireworks display later in the evening. Music starts at 8 PM in the small shelter.

The program provides young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork. Kiwanis Disc Golf Course at Amundson Park The Kiwanis Disc Golf Course at Amundson Park is a nine hole course that is near the Yahara River Trail.

The course is one of the first to open each spring due to having rubber tee pads.

There’s a gravel parking lot for the course located at the end of Amundson Parkway.

Stoughton Area Youth Center

The new youth center building at 567 E. Main St. is currently open and running for children in grades 5-8. Volunteers have fund raised over $500,000 and coordinated the makeover of the old warehouse building provided by Don Wahlin of Stoughton Trailers. The SAYC provides a safe place for area youth, offers recreational opportunities to promote a healthy lifestyle, and homework assistance during the school year.
