Valle Lindo School District Celebrates The Opening Of The Vlsd Community Resource Center
On March 29th, 2023, Valle Lindo School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially welcome educational partners to the VLSD Community Resource Center. The ceremony was attended by members of the community including families, students, staff, state and city officials, school board members and representatives from mental health and community support organizations. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, excitement and a sense of strong community.
The ceremony began with a welcome speech from the district superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Evans, who spoke about the vision behind the center. “Our community resource center is a place where we can come together and find the resources we need to help our community thrive. It’s a place where our community can find support, connect with others, and access vital services that can help us build a strong future.” VLSD Board of Education President Larry Rodriguez remarked, “This Community Resource Center belongs to every single person here. I can’t thank you enough for what you do for our community.” The district was honored with awards presented on behalf of Senator Susan Rubio, Supervisor Hilda Solis, the City of South El Monte, and the El Monte Union High School District. During the event, families visited many booths including stations hosted by the city library, local mental health organizations, and county resource providers. The space will also serve as a place where community members can find mental health and education resources while gathering in a safe and welcoming space. According to Ms. Guerra, Dean of Students, “With the Community Resource Center, we hope to address these needs and create a space that is truly inclusive and supportive of everyone in our community.”
An exciting aspect of the center is its focus on mental health support. The Community Resource Center is equipped with flexible spaced seating, calming decor, and state-of-the-art technology to ensure that individuals and groups using the space feel safe. The center also offers a range of educational resources for community members of all ages. There is a wellness corner filled with yoga mats, puzzles, games and crafts as well as informational material on other resources on topics ranging from career training opportunities to mental health classes and workshops.
As attendees left the ceremony, many expressed their excitement about the possibilities for the Community Resource Center. “I think this is an amazing resource for our community,” shared Elena Gaeta, who serves as a district staff member and parent . “There are so many families in our area who will benefit from the services provided here, and I’m very excited that our school district is taking the lead in providing them.” This Community Resource Center is a great example of what can happen when the school district and the community come together to address the needs of students and their families.
As the ribbon cutting ceremony came to a close, there was a sense of excitement and possibility in the air. The Valle Lindo School District Community Resource Center represents the community it serves, one that
