Director’s Message On behalf of the Community Services Department Team, welcome to our Activity Guide covering the spring-summer months!

Through our active community engagement, we strive to provide opportunities that will foster lifelong learning, promote personal development, and enhance the quality of life for San Pablo residents. We are ready to roll into 2017 with our new theme of Pokémon! You will see our staff at events, rentals, camps, and programs with shirts that proudly display our mission statement. Turbo Kick

This was developed to provide participants a safe, effective, and fun cardiovascular workout that utilizes kickboxing, boxing, and hip hop style moves and combines them with constant aerobic movement and predetermined transitions for the purpose of exercise.

Zumba Toning

When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba Toning raises the bar (or rather, the toning stick). It combines targeted body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work to create a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness-party.

WALKING CHALLENGE MEET STEP GOALS & EARN PRIZES! Challenge yourself by setting realistic goals and gradually increasing your physical activity or maintaining recommended levels of exercise.

Step 1:

Set a goal for yourself and register with the San Pablo Recreation Division Go to www.SanPabloCA.gov/Walk or swing by the San Pablo Community Center.

Step 2: Once you’ve completed registration show your receipt at the San Pablo

Community Center and receive a free dry-fit ‘TEAM SAN PABLO’ workout shirt.

Step 3: Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk ... don’t forget to write down your daily total on your tracking sheet!

Step 4: Stop by the San Pablo Community Center and show your tracking sheet(s) to

collect fun prizes. The first 100 people to meet their walking goal will receive a special T-shirt.

Step 5:

Keep walking, set new goals and improve your fitness! Invite a friend to join you or get your family involved. The top walkers who reside in San Pablo Incorporated (proof of residency required) will be entered into a drawing for prizes such as an Apple Watch, Wii U, and a Go Pro. Senior Center Programs Visit the San Pablo Senior Center (1943 Church Lane)

Nutrition

CC Cafe- Lunch is served Monday–Friday (11:30am-12:30pm) and must be pre-ordered 24 hours in advance. Menu options include a choice of daily entrée, burger, veggie burger, chef salad or seafood salad. A contribution of $2 is suggested for ages 60+. Anyone 59 and under MUST pay $5.

Food Bank Program-1st & 3rd Friday of each month at Maple Hall. Free groceries twice a

month to low-income individuals ages 55 years or older through the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano. Only one senior per household can receive food. Must bring picture ID and proof of address (PG&E bill, for example). Applications are available at the Senior Center.

San Pablo Senior Transportation Service is seeking individuals who would like to learn how to ride public transportation and individuals who would like to teach others. Free Tax Preparation - Free Tax Preparation for the 2017 tax season will be offered by Tax-Aide’s AARP sponsored program. The service, provided by IRS certified tax counselors, will be available February through April. Appointments are REQUIRED and open to the public. Call 215-3090 for an appointment.

We also offer the following services: HICAP, Computer Tutoring, Notary Services, Senior Peer Counseling (English and Spanish), and Information & Assistance Program.

Senior Center Programs Scholarship Opportunity The San Pablo Senior Center Scholarship Program is now available to adults age 55+ residing in West County (San Pablo, Richmond, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Pinole, Hercules, Rodeo and Crockett who wish to participate in Senior Center programs. Approved applicants are eligible for a maximum of $100 per individual per year. Must be a San Pablo Senior Center member. Funds made available by the San Pablo Committee On Aging.
