Library Calendar
The library has been a cool place to be this summer, with activities ranging from Storytimes to Ukulele classes - and even the chance to dissect owl pellets!
The Sanger Police and Fire Departments made a guest appearance at one of the preschool story times, bringing their equipment and vehicles with them. One firefighter demonstrated putting on all of his gear for the children to see and understand that there’s a normal person under the mask and uniform. Afterward they were able to get an up-close look at Sanger emergency vehicles, inside and out!
We were fortunate to have popular musician and performer Aspen Black return to the library to teach beginning ukulele, one class for children and another for teens. By the end of the classes, they were able to play “You Are My Sunshine!”
Another fantastic teacher, Master Naturalist Cathy Milliger, gave classes on “Leave No Trace” and “Owl Pellet Dissection.” Participants in the latter class had the opportunity to examine what owls had eaten and regurgitated, giving clues to their preferred prey.
Children weren’t the only ones having a good time at the library; some of their stuffed animals had their own sleepover party after listening to story time with their humans. They may have enjoyed themselves a little too much, making so much noise that Officer Harlan stopped by to make sure everything was OK. More photos of their antics were posted on our Facebook page.
In addition to the monthly book club and the knitting and crochet group, adults enjoyed a Plant & Seed Swap in July. A Denton County Master Gardener was present to assist in identifying at least one mystery plant as well as give valuable advice on their care.
These were just a few of the programs at the library this summer. The Reading Challenge also kept patrons busy and offered the chance to earn prizes, including books and the popular “brag tags.” The final participation numbers are not yet available, but over 200 individuals registered. While we’ll be taking a break from children’s programming in August, we’re planning plenty of fun this fall! Audrey Tolle, Library Director
