Waste and Recycling

What goes in each bin? You should only place rubbish in the red lid bin that cannot be placed in the yellow or green lid bins. This includes disposable nappies, small broken household items, such as glass or china, food packaging and all plastics bags. The yellow lid bin is for recyclables to be sorted by hand by our sorters, therefore please keep the recyclables in it clean and don’t include; shredded paper, small bottle tops, video tapes, organic waste, sharps or nappies. We accept in this bin paper, cardboard, clean glass bottles and jars, rigid plastic containers, steel and aluminium cans, milk and fruit juice cartons, foil trays and wine casks. Please ensure containers are rinsed with washing up water and tops are removed. Video tapes can also cause problems due to the tape wrapping around the sorting tromell, put these in your red lid bin.

The green lid bin can be used for shredded paper and food scraps as well as prunings (no greater than 100mm in diameter), grass clippings, weeds, leaves and owers. The garden organics need to be as free as possible from soil. Lawn clippings can cause odours when they start to decompose. The mechanical arms are only capable of lifting 80 kilos. For best results, and to reduce the weight, cut the lawn close to collection day and let it dry out before putting into organics bin. NAWMA operates an annual hard wastecollection service using a booking system on a suburb-by-suburb basis. The suburb schedule is printed on the reverse side of the annual collection calendar. Bookings incur a $10 resident contribution. Alternatively, a voucher system operates providing residents the choice to access the council Waste Transfer Station once a year free of charge. NAWMA:
