Alarm Permit (see permits page 18) Fire In 2015, the Rock Hill Fire Department (RHFD) earned the highest possible recognition when it earned a Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The ISO evaluation process is rigorous, with objective evaluations in four major areas: • Emergency communication systems—focuses on the community’s facilities and support for handling and dispatching alarms for structure fires. • Fire department—focuses on the department’s fire suppression capabilities. • Water supply—focuses on having an adequate water supply system for fire suppression. • Community risk reduction—focuses on fire prevention code adoption and enforcement, public fire safety education and fire investigation. RHFD has six stations, plus a Headquarters station, which houses administration, logistics, training and a fire museum. Emergency services include fire suppression, emergency medical services, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, confined space rescue, swift water rescue and high/low angle rescue. Community services include blood pressure checks, free smoke detectors to elderly citizens and low income households, fire station tours, fire safety inspections, emergency evacuation planning and in-school mentoring.
