Parent's Night Out

Looking for a night out without the kids? Drop them off for 3 hours of fun here at the Recreation Complex while you take a well-deserved break. Go out for a night on the town feeling confident that your little ones are safe and having the time of their life with us. This incredible evening for your children is filled with a variety of fun games, activities, and they won't want the night to end!
Fridays from 5:30 - 8:30pm
Kids's Can Cook
Ages: 7 -12
In this fun and hands on class we'll create an assortment of yummy dishes from breakfast to dessert, featuring fresh ingredients. Get comfortable in the kitchen and learn to cook your favourites!

Babysitter's Training
Ages: 11 & up
The Babysitter's Training Course is aimed at young people turning 12 years of age within the calendar year or older who want to demonstrate their capabilities by completing the course under responsible direction. The Babysitter's Training Course is loaded with special features such as: Child Development and Behavioral Problems, Safety, Handling Emergencies, Games and Play Activities, Children with Special Needs, and more. Certification is included! Remember to pack a lunch!

Home Alone
Ages: 10 & up
The Home Alone Program is designed to provide children with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. This course will help children understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied.


TWO sessions to choose from Monday June 5 9:00am - 12:00pm OR 12:30 - 3:20pm

Fresh Water Fishing for beginners
Ages: 13 & up
Join John MacDowell, an experienced outdoorsman, hunter, and fishing enthusiast, for this exciting new course. The goal of this program is to teach participants everything from the basics, to different strategies of catching freshwater fish in Powell River. Topics including tackle, equipment, fishing techniques and fly tying will be covered as well. This 2 hour class will be a great starting point for those who are interested in delving into the world of fishing.

Oyster Picking & Clam Digging
Ages: 13 & up
Join John McDowell for a delightful and informative hands-on class. You'll meet first at the complex for a detailed discussion and video, then head out to the beach for picking, digging, and eating! We'll build a fire and cook a few with all the trimmings! Participants must have a valid tidal license. Bring gum boots, a bucket, a small container with lid, work gloves, a hand forked digging tool, and oyster shucker.

Salt Water Fishing for beginners

Ages: 13 & up
If you are looking to learn about fishing our local tidal waters, this course will help get you on your way. The curriculum will cover different fishing techniques and strategies utilized for catching the variety of tidal water species found through out BC. Information on gear types, rod/reels, bait types, locations, depth, and how current impacts picking one’s fishing spot will also be covered.

Willow Chair Making

Ages: 16 & up
In one day you can make and take home your own classic Willow chair. Using Willow for bent shoots, Alder for the frame pieces, this a great first rustic building project. All tools and materials provided, no previous woodworking experience needed. Participants are welcome to bring a helper and need to bring a lunch. This is a full-day workshop, 9-5 Sunday April 8 from 9:00am - 5:00pm $300
